Custodian

REPORTS TO: Terminal Maintenance Lead

This position performs a wide variety of custodial tasks and projects as assigned by the Terminal Maintenance Lead. The custodial position works shifts including nights, some weekends and holidays, involving physical labor. This specific position will be required to work overnight from 8pm – 5am.

GENERAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Cleans and polishes lighting fixtures, and trim. Cleans and vacuums rooms, hallways, lobbies, offices, restrooms, corridors, stairways, breakrooms, and other work areas. Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes all airport terminal floors. Sweeps, power-washes, and monitors cleanliness of passenger pick-up/drop-off areas. Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and glass. Sweeps and monitors cleanliness of employee parking lots. Cleans and dusts airport elevators and escalators. Dusts and polishes furniture and metalwork. Washes windows, door panels, and sills. Empties and cleans wastebaskets and ashtrays. Transports trash and waste to disposal areas. Cleans bathroom fixtures and replenishes bathroom supplies. Cleans and vacuums administrative offices and rooms. Sets up tables and chairs in airport conference room or in other areas of the terminal building.

In addition to basic custodial duties, this position will focus primarily on floor care of various surfaces including low pile carpet, terrazzo, vinyl, and ceramic tile flooring; experience using a floor scrubber, carpet extractor and ride-on vacuum is preferred.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

• High School education or equivalent; one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read and understand written instructions, memos, and correspondence.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, tenants and the public.
• Ability to function with minimal supervision.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety variables in given situations.

Knowledge

• Considerable knowledge of the materials, methods, and techniques used in the cleaning of large commercial facilities.
• Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of custodial work.
• Knowledge of floor care including carpet, tile, terrazzo, and concrete preferred.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
