Structural Fitter - Fabrication Yard

Main Purpose

To perform job functions required and/or assigned in the fabrication of iron as steel structures in accordance with the contract/job specifications and quality assurance requirements/fitting procedures and established ISO/QC program standards.

Essential Functions

• Follow written and/or verbal instructions with little or no supervision.
• Read and interpret blueprint and specification schedules.
• Perform mathematical calculations, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, angles, etc.,
• Measure, cut, fit, and/or install iron and steel braces, beams, plates, pipe, etc., in accordance to blueprint and job specifications schedules.
• Follow fitting procedures and principles used in the fabrication of offshore jackets, decks, heliports, production facilities, etc.
• Perform other related job duties as assigned in a safe and efficient manner; also, see physical requirements.
• Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.

• Reaching, forward, and overhead: These are essential job functions /physical requirements.
• Climbing: This is an essential job function /physical requirement.
• Balancing, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing are all considered regular physical duties/requirements and would be needed/required to work in this industrial environment safely and efficiently.
• Lifting - employees must lift 25 pounds and occasionally 50-75 pounds

Job Requirements

• Must have a minimum of 2 years experience and be able to successfully demonstrate the ability to pass a written and practical fitter test.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
• Must be able to pass a background check.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Desirable Experience/Training

Highschool diploma or GED.

Tools and Equipment Used

Fitters must have knowledge of and use cutting torches, measuring tapes, calculators, levels, man-lifts and/or high-reach equipment, welding machines, chipping hammers, pressure chippers, power grinders, etc. Must be able to read and write.

Environmental Conditions

80 to 90% of the work activities are performed outdoors. Individuals will be required to work in changes of temperature, hot, cold, humid, wet, and dry conditions, dust, mud, etc. They will also be exposed to paint thinner and paint fumes.
