Job Summary
Gulf Photonics is seeking an Assembly Technician to join our production team. This position performs precision assembly and manufacturing operations involving fiber optic components and assemblies.
Our work requires excellent attention to detail, patience, and perseverance. While we have established production processes, some of our work involves new or highly specialized assemblies that may require us to solve problems and develop techniques as we go. The right person will be comfortable working through challenging tasks, learning from unsuccessful attempts, and continuing to refine their approach until the desired result is achieved.
This is hands-on work requiring good hand-eye coordination and the ability to work with very small components. Assembly Technicians work from drawings, work instructions, and production routers while following established manufacturing and quality procedures.
Previous experience with fiber optics is not required. We are looking for dependable, detail-oriented individuals who enjoy working with their hands, learning specialized processes, and taking pride in producing high-quality work.
Responsibilities
- Perform precision assembly operations according to drawings, work instructions, routers, and established manufacturing procedures.
- Identify and use the correct materials, components, tools, and equipment required for assigned operations.
- Work with small components using hand tools, microscopes, inspection loupes, and other production equipment.
- Complete required production and quality documentation accurately.
- Perform visual and in-process inspections of work as required.
- Maintain quality and workmanship standards throughout the assembly process.
- Work through new or challenging assembly processes with patience and a willingness to learn and adapt.
- Rotate between different assembly operations and production tasks as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow company safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures.
- Work independently or as part of a production team depending on the assigned process.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical, trade, or vocational training is a plus.
- Prior experience in precision assembly, electronics assembly, medical device manufacturing, fiber optics, or similar manufacturing environments is a plus but not required.
- Strong attention to detail, patience, and perseverance.
- Ability to remain focused when performing detailed or repetitive work.
- Willingness to learn new processes and work through unfamiliar or challenging assembly tasks.
- Good near vision and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to make precise, coordinated movements with the hands and fingers.
- Ability to grasp, manipulate, and assemble very small components.
- Ability to use or learn to use microscopes, inspection loupes, precision hand tools, and related production equipment.
- Ability to read and follow drawings, written work instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Dependable and able to remain focused and on task with limited supervision.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and retrieve materials as required.
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Sufficient arm and hand steadiness to perform precision assembly operations.
