Manual Machinist - Part Time

We are seeking a skilled and detailed oriented Manual Machinist to join our team.  This role involves producing precision parts requiring a high level of accuracy and consistency using manual lathe and mill.  Maintain adherence to quality standards and specifications.. Support a dynamic shop environment with a mix of repeat production parts and custom, low-volume precision work.

Part Time Hours:  Monday - Friday 7:30am -12:30pm

Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate manual lathe and mill.  Work to close tolerances and inspect with various types of inspection equipment.
  

• Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for each material and operation.
• Cut precision threads in brass and stainless steel (external and internal).
• Manage tooling inventory, requisition, maintain, and replace as needed.
• Coordinate raw material needs and communicate stock requirements proactively.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on lathe and mill
• Collaborate with production to understand part requirements and priorities.
• Work with engineering to evaluate designs for manufacturability.

• Read and interpret drawings and work instructions.
• Measure and examine completed parts for any defects and ensure conformance to drawing specifications.
  
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Requirements

• Self-starter who can manage tasks and priorities with minimal supervision
• Strong knowledge of manual machining and lathe operations.
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
• Basic math and problem-solving skills.

• Demonstrated experience cutting precision threads in brass and stainless steel
• Capable of managing own tooling and raw material needs independently
• Working knowledge of machine maintenance 
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative work style
• Ability to provide practical machining feedback during the design and planning phase
