What are the responsibilities and job description for the Residential Youth Care Worker position at Gulf Coast Social Services?
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Residential Youth Care Worker will be instrumental in creating a structured, therapeutic, and supportive environment for youth.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Supervise daily routines, activities, and chores, providing instruction in life skills such as hygiene, cooking, cleaning, and laundry. Actively engage with youth, role-modeling positive social and emotional behaviors, promoting cooperation, and fostering a sense of responsibility for their environment. Provide academic support and tutorial assistance as needed.
2. Implement TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) strategies, offering tailored relational support and guidance through various engagement levels (playful, structured, calming, protective). Mediate conflicts, facilitate problem resolution, and apply appropriate therapeutic interventions based on individual service plans. Prioritize returning to playful engagement after emotional crises to maintain connection. Demonstrate knowledgeable use of the Child and Youth Care Code of Ethics and Trauma-Informed Care principles.
3. Dispense medication, administer first aid, and provide transportation for medical, educational, and therapy appointments. Ensure the safety of youth by conducting fire drills and responding to emergencies. Maintain confidentiality of all youth information and records.
4. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of youth behaviors, progress, and interventions, including daily logs, incident reports, and weekly summaries. Communicate pertinent information to supervisors and team members during shift changes and meetings. Stay informed of individual youth developments and therapeutic needs by reviewing charts.
5. Orient new youth to program guidelines, policies, and expectations, helping them adjust and connect. Comply with all organizational philosophies, policies, therapeutic procedures, and licensing/accreditation standards. Report critical incidents, unusual behaviors, and any concerns to the appropriate supervisory staff immediately.
Perform other related duties within the guidelines of the Agency, state licensing regulations, and the Service Plan.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Per residential home standards Type IV-2024, must be at least 21 years-old, possess a high school diploma or equivalency, and have two years post high school job experience, bachelor’s degree preferred.
Must possess proficient reading and writing skills along with the qualities of patience, empathy, dependability, and the ability to teach others.
The ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, and lift as designated by the resident’s Service Plan.
Must have a valid driver’s license per state law, current liability insurance, and access to properly registered and inspected vehicle in safe operating condition.

Pay: $17.75 - $18.00 per hour
