Job Summary
Gulf Coast Social Services is seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at the South Central Louisiana Human Services Authority (SCLHSA) Terrebonne Behavioral Health Clinic. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional patient care and administrative support in a fast-paced medical environment. This role involves working closely with healthcare professionals to ensure efficient patient flow and deliver high-quality service. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for both clinical and administrative tasks, contributing to the overall efficiency of our practice.
Responsibilities
- Greets patients, updates files and medical records, assists with collecting and handling insurance and laboratory forms/results, manages messages and routine correspondence, schedules appointments, and arranges other levels of care.
- Collects co-pays and maintains records of funds received.
- Collects and enters patient registration data into the electronic health record system, and maintains patient records according to SCLHSA policies and procedures.
- Prepares patients for examinations, which includes obtaining, assessing, and recording vital signs.
- Assists the practitioner in delivering health care services, treatments, examinations, and procedures for patients.
- Collects samples of blood and urine, and performs vision and audio testing, as needed.
- Ensures examination areas are fully stocked, organized, cleaned, and disinfected, and orders supplies, as needed.
- Assist with cleaning examination areas, as required.
- Provides constant visual monitoring and care for suicidal, combative or agitated patients to ensure the safety and well-being of the patients, and documents accordingly.
Other Responsibilities:
- Maintains positive relationships with funding and regulatory agencies and community resources.
- Attends and participates in general staff and specialized meetings.
- Performs similar job-related duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of one year of experience in the field.
- Must have a Certified Medical Assistant certification.
- Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, the ability to represent the Agency in a highly professional manner, and to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
- Good judgment, initiative, and dependability, sound decision-making skills, the ability to handle multiple responsibilities, strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to prioritize work and meet multiple deadlines.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and work collectively with the administrative team.
- A valid Louisiana driver's license, proof of auto liability insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle in safe operating condition with a current inspection sticker.
