WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Padres de Crianza Counselor is an exempt position responsible for providing therapeutic services to Hispanic/Latino relatives and non-relative caregivers who are caring for children in Hillsborough County, Florida. This professional position assists in strengthening and stabilizing relative and non-relative placements by providing intensive, specialized therapeutic services to support the caregiver and child's well-being.

  • Provide direct counseling to parents, caregivers, and children to help meet the family's needs.
  • Provide therapeutic crisis intervention services, when needed, to assist in stabilizing families.
  • Provide effective role modeling and monitor families to ensure they can implement the new skills they have learned.
  • Provide information, referrals, and follow-up for appropriate ancillary community counseling, psychiatric services, financial, employment, parenting, housing, and other services as deemed appropriate to meet family needs.
  • Complete intake; NCFAS-G R; family support plan; and transition plan with all families where an intake was completed and conduct ongoing evaluations of clients' progress on therapeutic goals.
  • Complete termination session to ensure all therapeutic goals have been achieved and any needed wraparound services are in place.
  • Attend appointments, meetings, and community events with caregivers, as needed, to serve as an advocate on their behalf.
  • Maintain weekly communication with the Program Manager regarding case progress.
  • Provide on-call services as assigned, abiding by the program's on-call policy and procedure.
  • Present to colleagues, peers, and clients in a professional manner. Demonstrate professional behavior toward clients consistent with the enhancement of the client’s dignity and well-being.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Bachelor's degree in a human services-related field with a minimum of four (4 ) years post–bachelor's experience in human services.
    • Master's degree in a human services-related field with one year of experience in human services preferred.
  • A specialized certification, such as a Certified Addictions Professional (CAP), may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience
  • Bilingual required, English and Spanish
  • Thorough knowledge of human development, counseling theories, and practices.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong crisis intervention skills and remain neutral.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; must be computer literate.
  • Conducts self in a professional manner with colleagues, peers, and clients. Demonstrates professional behavior toward clients consistent with the enhancement of the client’s dignity and well-being. Upholds established policies and professional standards of conduct.
  • Exhibits willingness to assist colleagues, assumes additional responsibilities willingly, and works varying hours to meet client accessibility.
  • Ability to work in the family's home on a weekly basis.
  • Ability to work under stressful situations.
  • Potential exposure to clients who may be verbally and/or physically aggressive.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Ability to work overtime as a salaried professional when required.
  • As a requirement of this position, you must use your personal car to transport and have active automobile insurance.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance.
