Gulf Bay, a Naples based luxury homebuilder and developer with more than 40 years of experience, is seeking a Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting functions for its development and construction projects. Working closely with the CFO, this individual will play a key role in shaping and executing the long-term financial strategy of the Construction & Development Group. Gulf Bay is the developer of Fiddler’s Creek and is active in Pelican Bay, two of the most significant luxury master-planned communities in the region. Pelican Bay has nearly 200 ultra-luxury hi-rise units yet to construct, while Fiddler’s Creek has yet to complete nearly 2,000 planned homes and condos of a total 5,000 homes and condos (estimated 2040). Fidder’s Creek is a privately owned master-planned community development in the luxury real estate market in Naples on nearly 4,000 acres, with less than one-third allocated for residential development: much of the land is dedicated to nature preserves, lakes, parks, and recreational areas in a private club.
JOB ROLE
Manage the accounting activity and financial reporting for the Construction and Development departments and all active & development projects/entities. The individual will oversee all aspects of the accounting function and analyze the financial status of the Construction & Development Group working with the CFO to develop and carry out the long-term financial goals. As the Controller, Construction & Development, the individual will attend scheduled meetings with the CFO and Vice President, Development.
Primary Responsibilities
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
Mandatory Experience/Background: 10 plus years of experience of progressively responsible accounting work. Candidate must have 5 or more years of experience in construction. Working knowledge of Sage 300/Timberline and ERP (Procore); Excellent Excel skills.
Desired Experience/Qualifications: Residential construction & development experience, hi-rise background is preferred. Strong understanding and foundation of accounting principles, financial reporting, and analysis.

Primary Responsibilities
- Supervise development accounting department staff and resources. Lead, mentor and manage the team, being accountable for all work produced. Participate in hiring and selection of staff. Motivate, empower, encourage staff, retaining Top-grade employees.
- Evaluate and review accounting procedures and control to ensure accurate financial reporting, adequate safeguarding of company assets and efficient utilization of personnel.
- Ensure timely preparation of financial reports for management. Continuously review reports for accuracy, reliability and usefulness.
- Report on the progress of projects from a budgeting/purchasing/variance/cost-to-complete standpoint, to enable senior management to make effective decisions. Need to manage the process schedule and ensue that adequate insurance coverage is in place.
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements for all entities and provide assistance with the preparation of Quarterly Financial presentation(s).
- Assist with the establishment of annual operating budgets/proforma.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts. Manage cash flow for all active construction and development entities.
- Prepare monthly bank/owner draws for all development/syndication entities in conjunction with your team.
- Ensure the timely and accurate processing and payment of all accounts payable including the management of lien release and insurance compliance.
- Prepare and maintain subsidiary schedules for various financial statements.
- Analysis and recommendation to streamline systems and processes of accounting staff.
- Assist the CFO with the compilation of required information needed for the preparation of the annual corporate tax return. Prepare miscellaneous annual tax returns as needed.
- Assist with the daily data processing needs and requirements of all active construction & development entities.
- Maintain technical accounting competence through review of regulatory publications.
- Develop and maintain technical financial expertise through seminars and financially oriented publications.
- Develop and improve management skills through in-house professional development materials.
- Develop “hands-on” familiarity with accounting team positions through direct instruction including visual observation of daily tasks.
- Seek to expand knowledge base by attending internal and external meetings, seminars and reviewing publications.
- Other related duties and assignments and projects as requested by the CFO.
