Utility General Laborer

Guilford Water Authority is looking for reliable, motivated, hardworking laborers to join our team. This is a 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. position with mandatory on call hours. This position is guaranteed 40 hours minimum a week, with no lay offs.

Responsibilities:

· Assist in service line installation

· Assist in repairing main and service line leaks

· Construction of water mains

· Repair leaking meters

· Fire hydrant maintenance

· Perform flagging and traffic control on jobsite when needed

· Install and repair meters as necessary

· Program and install MXUs

· Assist in meter reading, rechecks and rereads

· Help flip meter lids yearly

· Terminate water service

· Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

· Basic knowledge in plumbing is helpful

· Must have a valid driver’s license

· Must be able to work well with others and as part of a team

· Understand and carry out verbal and written instructions

· Ability to perform physical labor. Must be able to stand, bend and squat for periods of time.

· Ability to use hand and power tools

· Ability to work with minimal guidance and prioritize tasks

· Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions (extreme hot, cold, rain, snow ect.)

· Must be available for on-call emergencies when scheduled

· Willingness to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities as needed
