GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

This position provides public assistance at one of the Event Centers, Northeast Park or Bur-Mil Park. The Event Host takes care of any facility related needs of customers who have rented the facility after 5 pm on weekdays and on weekends and holidays. Work is primarily performed at one of the Guilford County Parks.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The employee in this class provides public assistance at one of the Event Centers, Northeast Park or Bur-Mil Park. The Event Host takes care of any facility related needs of customers who have rented the facility after 5 pm on weekdays and on weekends and holidays. They check room set-ups and make adjustments if needed, adjust room temperatures, provide additional furniture, assist the bartenders when needed, remove garbage, perform light housekeeping by checking restrooms for toilet paper, paper towels and cleanliness, occasionally re-set rooms between events, lock and secure the facility at the end of the event. Work is primarily performed at one of the Guilford County Parks. Public contact is described as greeting public as they enter facility, and assisting them with various customer service needs. Work is performed under regular supervision and progress is checked through review of reports.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties & Tasks

  • Assists customers who are renting the facility by providing additional tables and/or chairs, adjusting thermostats, communicating rules and regulations that may affect the safety of participants or the facility, and providing answers to any questions about the facility, or surrounding areas.
  • Completes light housekeeping duties by changing out the toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, unclogging toilets, and removing garbage.
  • Opens the facility after hours and on weekends by unlocking doors and turning on lights.
  • Closes and secures the facility at the end of events by checking windows and doors, setting the security alarm, securing the park, and locking the park gate.
  • Responds to any emergencies that may occur during an event by calling 911 for fire, ambulance or police assistance, performing first aid and/or CPR if needed and trained.
  • Completes event paperwork by recording attendance, recording any situations that may have come up during the event, recording their working hours, identifying any facility needs that should be addressed by custodial staff, and recording any equipment or supplies that were used or rented that had not been pre-arranged.
  • Performs related duties as required.

RECRUITMENT STANDARDS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of the organization and functions of the department.
  • Knowledge of rules for the Event Center and park in which they work.
  • Knowledge of programs offered at the facility in which they work and surrounding areas.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal safety codes.
  • Knowledge of Guilford County Personnel policies.
  • Knowledge of locations of breaker boxes, fire extinguishers, cleaning supplies, how to light gas fire logs, bartender supplies, etc.,.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform light cleaning and housekeeping
  • Ability to multi-task.

Typical Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent able to perform the assigned tasks and meet the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Prefer experience working with the public and in an event setting.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands of Work

Work is performed in a controlled climate with little or no exposure to natural elements or hazardous conditions. Visits to field sites or driving a vehicle an automobile may be required. Work is described as sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

May Require Driving

This position may require driving for this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business such as but not limited to attending conferences, meetings, or any other county related functions. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid driver's license and that the driving record is compatible with the county's driving criteria.

If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford County's vehicle use policy.
