Guilford Center for Children Employee Expectations:

  • Supervision: Always maintain appropriate staff to child ratios.
  • Expectations: Comply with GCC policies, as well as OEC, & NAEYC standards at all times.
  • Safety: Document and report any suspected child abuse to Director of GCC and/or the CT Office of Early Childhood
  • Maintenance: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom and assist in maintaining school cleanliness.
  • Professional Development: Seek out and participate in professional development at a minimum of 1% of total yearly hours.

Classroom Co-Teacher Duties:

  • Collaboratively plan lessons and activities for the classroom, community room, and outdoors that reflect developmentally appropriate curriculum and NAEYC standards with co-teachers
  • Use the CT Preschool Frameworks as a backdrop for planning curriculum and activities.
  • Lead and collaborate with teachers and floaters to ensure smooth daily routines and positive classroom management.
  • Run a circle and execute other educational activities based on the lesson plans approved by the Director.
  • Engage children in educational play, conversation, and social interactions.
  • Assess children using the guidelines provided by GCC, NAEYC and or CT Preschool Frameworks and in the method of reporting used by GCC.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians, including but not limited to:
  • Presenting incident/injury/illness reports as necessary.
  • Regular classroom updates on Class Dojo.
  • Responding to questions or concerns as they arise.
  • Occasionally sharing personalized messages about the children in class.
  • Alerting Early Education leadership team when developmental/social concerns arise for students to help be the liaison to further conversations with parents.
  • Offering preschool parent/teacher conferences twice a year (in the fall, spring, and as requested by parents).
  • Keep confidential any family and/or child-related issues that are discussed.
  • Foster relationships with parents and the community.
  • Manage an active classroom e-mail address to be used to share information with parents.
  • Ensure playground equipment is being used in the manner it is intended for. Do not cluster and chat in groups with other teachers -keep space so all areas are being observed.
  • Keep accurate attendance and stay within ratios. Communication if/when other staff are needed in the room or on the playground.
  • If opening/closing a room, ensure that all duties necessary are completed.
  • Opening: Set up classrooms, open centers/activities for children to play, support children as they get ready for the day, and communicate any important messages to classroom teachers from drop off.
  • Closing: Put away toys, place chairs on tables, lock sliding glass doors, put HVAC systems at proper temperature, check bathrooms, and ensure sign out sheets are completed, and all children are gone.

Organizational Duties:

  • Work collaboratively with other teachers and staff to maintain a positive, supportive school culture.
  • Put your phone away, keep your belongings inaccessible to children, and hot liquids stay out of reach.
  • Regular check-ins with Director and/or Assistant Director to review plans (employee may also request-in advance- attendance at regular planning times)
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the Early Education Leadership team.

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
