Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. Duties
- Provide direct support to clients in their daily activities, including personal care and assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
- Monitor and record vital signs, ensuring any changes in health status are reported promptly.
- Assist clients with mobility, including lifting and transferring as necessary to ensure safety and comfort.
- Observe and document client behavior and progress, maintaining accurate records of care provided.
- Educate clients about their rights as residents and advocate for their needs within the care setting.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's unique requirements.
- Provide first aid as needed and respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Support clients in accessing community resources and participating in social activities.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for hospice patients when applicable.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in direct support or home health care is preferred.
- Knowledge of vital signs monitoring and basic first aid practices.
- Strong understanding of resident rights and the ability to advocate effectively for clients.
- Ability to assist with hospice care when required, demonstrating compassion and sensitivity.
- Excellent observation skills to monitor client behavior and report any concerns.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with clients, families, and team members.
- Ability to lift clients safely and assist them with mobility challenges.
