Forklift Operator - First Shift

Safely move materials throughout the premises utilizing various forklift trucks and accessories appropriate for the task.

Responsibilities

• Provide material movement services at the request of direct supervisor, other departmental supervisors, or direct/indirect employees.
• Determine move-to location via verbal instructions, move ticket or job order routing documentation accompanying the material.
• Verify material to be moved is secure on its skid or in its container.
• Utilize straps or other approved means to ensure stability of material during movement.
• Move materials following operational safety rules, policies, and procedures.
• Utilize specialized forklift accessories to move or position materials as necessary.
• Move machine chip hoppers to chip dock and empty into large chip roll-off containers.
  
  

Requirements

• Must be able to obtain and retain operator certifications on various forklift trucks and accessories.
• Some material movement is accomplished between buildings necessitating the operations of the forklift truck outside the buildings, sometimes during inclement weather.
• All job classifications require the ability to work together to accomplish the goals of the business. This includes communicating and cooperating for the purpose of maintaining production schedules, compliance with ISO standards, total quality of parts and continuous improvement of processes.
• Renewal of qualifications in the job description is required when there is a specific reason to question the ability to perform the job at an acceptable level of productivity.
  
  

Work Environment

Spends 95% of the time in a manufacturing/shop environment and 5% in an office environment. Will be exposed to possible hazards including but not limited to working with strong magnetic fields, high-pressure equipment, high noise, inclement weather, chemicals, pressure testing, heavy lift operations and shop/field traffic.

Physical Demands

Frequent walking, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing upward, hand tasks (i.e., twisting, gripping, pinching), and lifting daily.
