SUE Locate Technician

As a SUE Locate Technician, you will report to the SUE Manager. You will be responsible for locating detectable utilities, ensuring that all subsurface utilities are in a manner that ensures work can be performed without damaging our underground utility infrastructure, while adhering to our company’s methodology for utility locates, and have the ability to communicate findings with Project Managers and clients, as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Activities

• Ability to read and interpret utility maps to identify size and type of underground utilities.
• Accurately mark the location of underground utilities
• Knowledge of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to mark and locate various utilities
• Proficient knowledge of electro-magnetic units to mark and locate various utilities
• Ability to create Google Earth KMZ/KML files
• Ability to take pictures and write a concise report of field findings
• Ability to use a 360° camera
• Ability to work after hours or on call, as needed and when scheduled
• Perform work in all weather conditions
• Use a shovel to expose buried utilities when necessary
• Maintain a professional appearance and abide by company dress code
• Maintain a positive working relationship with all parties involved, including but not limited to customers, homeowners and contractors
• Ensure proper maintenance of all equipment used
• Ability to use AutoCAD C3D and/or MicroStation, preferred
• Ability to use Bluebeam, preferred

Safety

• Champion a safety-first culture
• Safely operate company vehicle
• Perform daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), tailgate talks, and pre-task plans.
• Adhere to company safety policies (PPE, traffic control, heat illness prevention, incident reporting, etc.).

Qualifications

Requirements

• 1-3 years of underground utility locating experience.
• Skilled in the use of electro-magnetic units.
• Knowledgeable in the use of Bluebeam and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to travel to job sites and work variable schedules, as needed.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and thrive in a team environment.
• Sharp eye for detail and a solid foundation in performing subsurface utility engineering locating tasks.
