This internship is structured in accordance with Department of Labor guidelines, emphasizing educational benefit, alignment with academic requirements, and mutual understanding that there is no expectation of compensation or paid employment at the conclusion of the internship.

Summary

The MSW Intern provides beginning-level generalist social work practice experience under supervision. This role is designed to support organizational needs in service delivery, client engagement, and program support. The internship emphasizes learning and professional development while contributing to the mission of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities may vary depending on organizational needs but generally include:

• Conduct psychosocial assessments (needs assessments) with new clients entering services.
• Provide day-to-day client support, including responding to immediate needs during evening and weekend hours.
• Participate in case management activities as appropriate and under supervision.
• Complete documentation such as intake paperwork, discharge forms, case notes, and Individualized Service Plan (ISP) updates in accordance with agency standards.
• Attend staff, program, and team meetings to gain exposure to interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Engage in advocacy efforts or projects as assigned (e.g., data collection, housing initiatives).
• Apply evidence-informed interventions under supervision, integrating theory with practice.
• Maintain professional standards of ethics, confidentiality, and cultural competence in all client interactions.
• Other duties as assigned

• Enrollment in a Master of Social Work (MSW) program in good academic standing.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment.
• Commitment to learning, self-reflection, and professional development.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing organizational priorities and client needs.

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to:

• Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
• Communicate effectively in person, virtually, and in writing.
• Occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds.
