Join Our Team
As a Case Manager, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating and advocating for the comprehensive care of individuals receiving mental health and substance abuse treatment. This role is designed ideally for someone with lived experience in addiction recovery, capable of providing support through a peer-based, recovery-oriented approach. This person will essentially act as sponsor to the client by being aligned with AA (alcoholics anonymous) and/or NA (narcotics anonymous) principles. Location and Schedule:
This position is in-person in the Montclair, NJ area. Initially, this part-time position will require approximately 10 hours a week, eventually decreasing over several months depending on the client's recovery journey. The weekly schedule can be very flexible, as long as you can facilitate the client's regular attendance of AA (alcoholics anonymous) and/or NA (narcotics anonymous) meetings. These meetings can be during the day or in the evening.
Pay and Benefits:
Compensation for this role is $40 to $50 an hour as a part-time 1099 independent contractor. Should this role be fulfilled by a licensed clinician, additional compensation can be negotiated up to $45 per hour (1099).
This is a part-time, 1099 independent contractor position without benefits. However, these are career advancement opportunities within Guardian Recovery, as we prefer to promote and offer transfers from within whenever possible.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide the client with personal encouragement, support, guidance, and accountability throughout their recovery journey.
- Advocate for the client to ensure they have access to the right services needed to maintain sobriety and wellness.
- Attend AA and/or NA meetings with the client, assisting with transportation when needed.
- Chaperone the client during daily outings, including practical and recreational activities such as attending sporting events (e.g., hockey) or grocery shopping.
- Assist the client in maintaining sober living arrangements and support their daily living. Provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Interact with the client's family members, friends, and other individuals in their support system to aid in their recovery/wellness.
- Interface with licensed professionals assigned to the client, such as social services representatives, medical providers, and other external agencies.
- Collaborate with internal teams supporting the client's continued access to care, including assisting with assessing client needs and helping to build treatment/care plans.
Qualifications Required:
- Extensive knowledge of the AA (alcoholics anonymous) and/or the NA (narcotics anonymous) 12-step process is required. This knowledge can come from a professional work setting or personal life experience (such as being a sponsor).
- A driver's license valid in the State of New Jersey is required.
- Passing a background check and a drug test is part of our onboarding process.
- A high school diploma or GED is required. Additional education would be great, but it's certainly not required.
- Use of a personal vehicle is required for this position.
Optional Qualifications Desired:
- Specifically, in New Jersey, optional certifications related to this job could include:
Certified Recovery Support Practitioner (CRSP)
Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS)
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)
Certified Behavioral Health Specialist (CBHS) - Experience in substance abuse recovery, behavioral health, and/or mental health wellness is highly preferred; this experience can stem from personal life or prior employment.
- A professionally licensed clinician could fill this position and be compensated at a higher rate ($50 to $60/hour, 1099). If so, clinical licensure appropriate for addiction care in the state of Virginia would be required.
