POSITION PURPOSE
The Process Operator 4 is responsible for advanced operation and oversight of all non-energy equipment within the plant, coordinating routine activities with other operators and providing oversight as needed. This role works a 12-hour rotating shift and supports company policies, goals, and objectives. Key duties include performing complex Lockout/Tagout procedures, advanced troubleshooting, reading P&IDs, managing assigned preventive maintenance tasks, issuing safe work permits, overseeing camera and phone systems, and supporting plant startup and shutdown activities. The position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Along with Process Operator 3 duties, Process Operator 4 is also responsible for:
Floor Tasks/Skills
- Coordination of routine plant activities with other operators.
Computer Learning & Functional Skills
- Complex LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures for complex systems with multiple interfaces and critical work.
- Advanced P&ID (Piping & Instrumentation Diagram) reading.
- Advanced plant troubleshooting.
- Assigned process preventive maintenance (PMs).
- Safe work permit issuance.
- Phone system management.
- Provide oversight of camera systems.
Required DCS Interactions
- Support plant startup and shutdown activities (non-energy) with oversight
- Safe operation of the entire plant with oversight.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification
High school diploma or equivalent certificate required
Completion of Process Operator 1, 2, & 3 qualifications
Required Knowledge & Experience:
Experience in the operation of a dry-mill ethanol plant preferred
Valid Driver’s License required
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to learn and work effectively with the plant’s Distributed Control System (DCS).
- Ability to learn and utilize forklifts, scissor lifts and other industrial mobile powered equipment for material handling and operational tasks as directed.
- Punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines.
- Ability to maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to communicate information and state problems or challenges to be resolved in a clear, concise, courteous, nondiscriminatory and professional manner and be able to provide clarification as necessary.
- Capable of adapting, with minimal or no advance notice, to changes in how business is conducted, and work is accomplished, with no diminishment in work performance
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
- Significant time spent throughout the plant site, accessing process areas by walking, golf cart, UTV, and other industrial mobile powered equipment.
- Manual or remote operation of large-scale chemical industrial processing equipment (corn grinding, mash processing, distillation, steam generation, material separation/upgrading).
- Exposure to loud noises, wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and extreme temperatures.
- Ability to perceive and respond to process upsets and equipment malfunctions.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at elevations up to 175 feet.
- Must be able to speak, listen, read, and comprehend written instructions.
- Travel required as needed.
