Medical Review Nurse

This position is required to work on-site in our Chicagoland (Glenview, IL) office most days. Everyone receives 3 flexible remote days per month and 6 additional Friday PTO days each year! And, we offer half-day Fridays – every Friday!

Role Overview

We are seeking a Registered Nurse with direct health and/or life insurance experience to perform clinical claim reviews and apply policy language using evidence‑based analysis. Prior insurance claims experience is required.

A self‑directed insurance nurse who thrives in a documentation‑heavy, policy‑driven environment and values accuracy, consistency, and collaboration.

This role is not intended for bedside‑only nursing candidates.

Key Responsibilities

• Review medical records and clinical documentation for insurance claim determinations.
• Assess medical necessity and apply policy language across Hospital Indemnity, Medicare Supplement, Long Term Care, Accident/Injury, and/or Life insurance products.
• Prepare clear, concise, and defensible written claim summaries and recommendations.
• Collaborate with Claims, Underwriting, Legal, Actuarial, and other internal insurance teams.
• Manage multiple workflows while meeting quality and turnaround standards.
• Maintain accurate, compliant, and audit‑ready documentation.

Success in this role requires excellent analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a strong understanding of insurance terminology, benefits interpretation, and claims requirements. You must be capable of moving efficiently between processes and projects based on department needs and turnaround expectations. The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team environment is essential.

• Registered Nurse (RN) – active license.
• 2–5 years of health and/or life insurance experience, specifically in claims or medical review roles.
• Proven ability to interpret medical records within the context of insurance policy language.
• Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar documentation systems.

The pay range provided is not a guarantee of compensation. The range reflects potential pay for the job grade for this role at the time of this posting. Compensation will depend on several factors such as specific competencies, relevant education and experience, qualifications, and industry certifications. Compensation ranges are subject to change and may be higher or lower than the range described above.
