SUMMARY
Under the leadership and guidance of the Smart Start Director, the Smart Start Early Childhood Education Teacher supports the implementation of a high-quality community-based program that promotes family literacy and provides a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate early learning experience for families in Immokalee who are unable to enroll their children in a traditional early learning center. The program serves children from birth to five years old.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBLITIES
- Assist in the maintenance of a well-organized, safe, and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children, including but not limited to daily classroom set up and clean up.
- Assist in the implementation of a developmentally appropriate classroom environment and associated activities.
- Build positive relationships with students and families, thereby providing effective ongoing coaching of parents in appropriate strategies.
- Assist in implementing the established curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional activities to support the development of early learning skills in the classroom and to encourage participation in family literacy and parenting activities.
- Aid children in hands-on learning that emphasizes self-help skills and helps to increase confidence.
- Welcome and effectively involve volunteers in the ECE classroom.
- Maintain high visibility and a hands-on presence with students, staff, volunteers, and parents in all aspects of the program.
- Assist in the observation and evaluation of student performance and progress.
- Comply with and complete all required evaluations and checkpoints throughout the academic year.
- Assist with daily attendance tracking and data collection.
- Assist in identifying the developmental and social-emotional needs of children, and suggest appropriate interventions under the guidance of the Smart Start Director.
- Demonstrate flexibility in implementing accommodations to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for all children.
- Maintain regular communication with parents to keep them informed of program expectations and activities.
- Provide ongoing feedback to the Smart Start Director in a professional and supportive manner.
- Communicate regularly with direct team members for the seamless delivery of classroom lessons and achievement of objectives.
- Assist in home visits, special events, field trips and staff/parent conferences.
- Transport parents and students in Guadalupe Center vehicle, as needed.
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development.

Requirements
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- DCF 45-hour credentials, preferred.
- One-year experience in Early Childhood Education, preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse cultures and populations preferred.
- Current first aid and CPR certificates. Must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
- Skills and Abilities
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Bilingual and bi-cultural skills desirable, but not required.
- Commitment to supporting the leadership culture of the organization.

- Must possess valid driver license and good driver history record.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment Level II background check and drug screening.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
- Requires mobility to stand, stoop, reach, and bend.
- Ability to walk long distances and participate actively with students of all ages both indoors and outside.
- May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
- Minimal lifting may be required not to exceed 25 lbs.
