Job Description:
This position is responsible for providing structural/geotechnical input & best-practices guidance for business initiatives, from idea conception through project COD. Become a collaborative member of the E&C Civil SME Team, which consists of engineers skilled in structural, geotechnical, site development, stormwater, sediment & erosion control, and risk management.
Key accountabilities of a Civil/Structural SME include, but are not limited to:
· Provides responsive engineering support on wind, solar, energy storage, clean fuels, substation, and transmission opportunities within the Engineering & Construction Business Unit.
· Maintains/promotes best practices and sponsors lunch & learn sessions on civil/structural topics.
· Participates in design & constructability reviews and provides timely & accurate comments/feedback to ensure no schedule issues.
· Drives resolution of critical issues during the execution phase of projects that can jeopardize project budget and/or schedule if not resolved in a timely manner.
· Ensures that recommended course of action satisfies any third-party obligations.
· Supports project financing efforts to ensure a level of comfort with all engaged Independent Engineers and Lenders that results in preferential and timely financial closings.
· Helps to define and influence project requirements and scope, including assessment of execution risk and development of risk mitigation strategies.
· Secures engineering consulting expertise when required to supplement and/or validate professional opinions.
· Performs emerging technology due diligence.
· Supports equipment and material technical evaluations and review of manufacturing/fabrication Non-Conformance Reports.
· Performs annual specification reviews and incorporates lessons learned.
· Provides feedback related to Supplier performance and annual report card.
Required
· B.S. or M.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering; P.E. license preferred.
· 5-7 years of structural engineering experience, preferably in wind, solar, or BESS projects.
· Demonstrated ability to independently review and redline structural design submittals (foundations, steel, concrete, etc.).
· Proficient in interpreting and applying national codes (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC) and renewable energy industry standards.
· Skilled in checking structural analysis models and construction drawings for design adequacy and constructability.
· Familiar with structural engineering deliverables management using platforms like Unifier, Bluebeam, and SharePoint.
· Proven track record of leading vendor coordination and guiding third-party engineering firms with minimal oversight.
· Excellent written and verbal communication for reporting technical assessments to project managers and SMEs.
· Strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
· Understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and construction materials behavior is a strong plus
· Travel within North America; 10-20% of time.
