GTR, a dynamic and growing Geotechnical Engineering and consulting firm with offices in North Chelmsford, MA, and Armonk, NY, is currently seeking a Senior Geotechnical and/or Structural Engineer with 8 years of experience to join our Massachusetts or New York office.

Our primary clients are Contractors, and we service their geotechnical and structural engineering, pile and shaft testing, and instrumentation and monitoring needs throughout the duration of the project. We perform design and analyses of, and not limited to, temporary earth retaining structures, trestles/work platforms, deep and shallow foundation design, marine structures, accelerated bridge construction, shoring, demolition and erection plans.
We are seeking someone with a strong understanding in geotechnical and/or structural engineering who can help lead various design tasks. The candidate will be a technical lead and work with Principals and Staff engineers to complete projects on-time and on-budget. Project management and client development experience is a plus. Responsibilities will include managing projects and existing clients to perform accurate, timely, and profitable completion of the projects, coordinate internally with other disciplines to cross-sell and cross-perform our services, mentoring and overseeing the work of junior staff, project management tasks including budgeting and client communications, performing engineering analyses and preparing technical submittal, as well as conducting periodic site visits, and construction observations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform the design and analysis of a wide variety of complex geotechnical and structural engineering projects.
- Develop technical design submittals that are submitted to the client and Owner/Engineer-of Record.
- Review design calculations, drawings and submittals completed by Staff Engineers.
- Mentor and train junior staff engineers to gain the knowledge and experience to support their career and our growing business.
- Work with Principals to ensure successful and timely completion of projects and to maintain schedule of multiple concurrent projects.
- Performs project management tasks such as developing proposals including budgets and scopes, invoicing projects, client communications, and contract reviews.
- Attends conferences and professional association meetings.
- Engages with the development of existing and new clients.
Qualifications
- 8 years of experience in geotechnical and/or structural engineering is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; master’s degree in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering preferred.
- Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering including soil mechanics, bearing capacity, settlement, slope stability, lateral earth pressures, etc.
- Strong understanding of structural engineering, including steel, concrete and timber design. Familiar with state and federal codes required to develop design loads and determine structural capacities.
- Project management experience is a bonus but not required.
- Verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Must be able to travel as required to support project needs.
- Must be willing to work in the office to engage with co-workers and develop positive relationships. Occasional remote work is acceptable, such that the work is advanced efficient and provided the ability to perform work is not hindered.
