Field Service Engineer
This position is fully onsite at our client’s aeronautical manufacturing facilities in Kinston, North Carolina. The role requires daily presence at the customer site and involves hands-on work in a dynamic industrial environment.
You will work directly with CNC/PLC‑controlled systems, performing diagnostics, calibrations, and process optimization to ensure optimal machine performance. The role also includes supporting machine acceptance activities and providing hands‑on training to customer personnel.
In addition, you will collaborate closely with our Service teams to coordinate interventions, respond to technical incidents, and contribute to Service initiatives in a dynamic, customer‑facing environment.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Troubleshoot and repair CNC/PLC systems, including alarm analysis and root‑cause identification.
- Perform machine calibrations, adjustments, and process optimization tasks.
- Support machine acceptance procedures and deliver customer training on proper machine operation.
- Coordinate with internal Service teams to plan and execute service interventions and respond to customer incidents.
- Contribute to Services activities, including documentation, service reports, and technical support.
- Develop technical content for manuals (operation, troubleshooting, preventive and corrective maintenance).
- Maintain thorough project records and documentation.
- Comply with company policies and meet performance expectations.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in similar roles, preferably commissioning and services 5-axis machines, but engineering work in other fields is acceptable
- High School diploma / Associates degree or technical certification in related field or higher preferred / Computer Science, Mechatronics or Automation Engineering Bachelor Degree.
- Strong troubleshooting skills using CNC & PLC software, including alarm tracing and root‑cause analysis.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical schematics.
- Ability to rebuild cable connectors (Ethernet, Profibus, power cables, Harting connectors).
- Experience aligning 5‑axis CNC machines using Renishaw laser interferometer, granite squares, dial indicators, or laser tracker.
- Ability to disassemble, replace, and adjust mechanical components.
- Ability to replace plug‑and‑play modules.
Availability to work onsite at the customer facility across all shifts, including weekends, and to work beyond 8 hours/day or 40 hours/week when required.
Salary : $90,000 - $125,000
