We offer higher-than-market contractor pay, tax-free per diem, and consistent full-time hours for welders living 50 miles outside Buffalo, in accordance with IRS distance-based per diem standards.Per Diem Eligibility (Important)Contractors must maintain a permanent residence 50 miles from Buffalo, NY to qualify for tax-free per diem under standard construction industry guidelines and IRS “away from tax home” rules.Key ResponsibilitiesMIG/GMAW welding on structural steel, frames, brackets, and modular unitsFit, tack, assemble, and weld components to engineering specificationsPerform welds in 3G/4G and positional orientationsRead and interpret detailed mechanical drawings and weld symbolsUse grinders, torches, and fabrication toolsConduct self-inspections to ensure AWS-level weld qualityMaintain adherence to all GTI safety policies and manufacturing standardsRequired Qualifications3 years MIG welding experienceAbility to pass a 3G and/or 4G weld testStrong blueprint reading and measurement accuracyMust have welding hood, gloves, and basic toolsMust live 50 miles outside Buffalo to qualify for per diemPreferred QualificationsAWS certification (3G/4G, D1.1)Modular fabrication or heavy steel experienceSTICK or TIG welding experienceCompensation$40–$48/hr (based on weld test and experience)$130/day tax-free per diemMinimum 40 hours/weekWeekly pay; OT available Company DescriptionGTI specializes in the design, engineering, fabrication, and deployment of custom modular structures, shipping container-based structures, and ballistic metal fabrication.
