As a Staff Geologist at UES, you’ll support a wide range of exciting environmental projects. Responsibilities
- Locate, observe, log field borings, probes, and test pits from plan layouts.
- Oversee drilling, sampling, excavating operations using manual or power-operated hand auguring equipment.
- Collect soil, groundwater, and air samples for laboratory analysis.
- Utilize field instruments and interpret data during investigations.
- Perform observations of field activities for compliance with project objectives and prepare reports documenting activities.
- Data entry and analysis.
- Practice loss prevention techniques.
- Provide liaison with subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives to achieve satisfactory field operations.
- Is responsible for alerting the project leader or supervisor of difficulties encountered, cost and time overruns, change in scope requested by client, potential liability exposure, or any other matter pertinent to the satisfactory completion of the project.
- Project a positive image of the Firm in all professional/personal contacts.
- Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.
- Conducts all work in a manner that demonstrates that safety is a core value.
- Follows UES safety plans, programs, policies and procedures.
- Conducts periodic jobsite safety observations.
- Participates in group safety meetings and jobsite tailgate safety meetings.
- Completes assigned safety training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Engineering
- Must have an education background as indicated, with strong work ethic and the ability to assess and react to project situations.
- Good oral and written communication skills, including good technical writing capabilities.
- An ability for accuracy and detail in performing technical observations.
- Ability to effectively use computers.
- Ability to use initiative and work independently within the limitations of experience.
- Knowledge of various exploratory and laboratory techniques.
- Frequent exposure to weather including hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather. Working conditions could be a combination based on season.
- Possible exposure to constant or intermittent sounds or a pitch or level sufficient to cause marked distraction or possible hearing loss.
- Possible exposure to a shaking object or surface. This factor is rated important when vibration causes a strain on the body or extremities.
- Possible exposure to conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation, which affect the respiratory system, eyes or, the skin.
- Possible exposure to confined areas.
- Possible exposure to heights.
- Required to stand for long periods of time.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; climb ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
