Senior Power System Planning Engineer
Austin, TX (Hybrid)
$140,000 – $160,000 Benefits
A well-established, Texas TSP is seeking a Senior Power System Engineer to join a small, high-impact planning team supporting reliability and compliance across its ERCOT-region transmission network.
This is a genuinely hands-on role, you'll own planning studies end-to-end, engage directly with ERCOT and neighboring utilities, and see your recommendations shape real capital investment decisions. Unlike larger utilities where planning is split across five or six specialized teams, here you'll work across the full breadth of the discipline, steady-state, interconnection, and stability studies, giving you genuine ownership and faster development.
What you'll do
- Lead power system studies for new interconnection requests and capital investment decisions
- Engage directly with ERCOT and neighboring TSPs on system conditions and planning assessments
- Conduct steady-state, short circuit, and stability studies supporting the Annual Planning Assessment
- Provide engineering expertise to support transmission system reliability across a portfolio of concurrent projects
What you'll bring
- Power system planning experience at a utility, TSP, or ISO (ERCOT experience strongly preferred; PJM, MISO, or CAISO experience also welcomed)
- Experience with power system software including PSS/E
- Working knowledge of current NERC, FERC, and ERCOT standards
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Strong communication skills and the ability to prioritize across multiple concurrent studies and projects
