What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESL Teacher- District position at Grundy County Board of Education?
Deliver high-quality language instruction to English Learners (ELs) to support their academic success and full integration into mainstream classrooms, aligning with federal and state guidelines and the district's mission to cultivate excellence and equity
Responsibilities:
- Design & implement compelling, standards-aligned ESL lessons addressing listening, speaking, reading, and writing .
- Employ differentiated and sheltered instruction strategies to meet diverse proficiency levels .
- Use data from language proficiency tools (e.g., WIDA) to inform teaching and track individual student progress.
- Maintain accurate records of student assessments and growth.
Collaboration & Consultation
- Work with general education teachers to adapt lesson plans, accommodate ELs, and foster inclusive classroom environments.
- Consult with principals, counselors, and other staff to align placement and student support.
Family & Community Engagement
- Build strong partnerships with EL families through regular communication and interpreters as needed .
- Provide resources for families to support language learning at home.
Professional Growth & Compliance
- Engage in professional development related to ESL best practices, language acquisition, and inclusive teaching.
- Ensure lessons comply with district, state, and federal requirements for ELs.
- Advocate for resources and supports necessary for effective EL instructio
Additional Duties
- Participate in school-level planning, committees, and staff meetings.
- Provide pull-out or co-taught ESL instruction, depending on student needs.
- Other assigned duties to support district goals.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
- Valid Tennessee teaching license with ESL endorsement
- Knowledge of ESL frameworks (e.g., WIDA), differentiated instruction, and assessment strategies
- Effective classroom management and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate and build relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Proficiency in an additional language is a plus.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- Regular mobility in and out of classrooms, may lift instructional materials (~25 pounds)
- Travel between district schools.
- Work inside typical school environments; occasional outdoor supervision.
