What are the responsibilities and job description for the Value Stream Supervisor – Welding | Fabrication position at GrowTech Industries, LLC?
Company Overview
GTI Energy operates in a contract manufacturing and industrial manufacturing environment focused on fabrication, welding, and system integration of complex modular systems. Our high-mix, engineered-to-order production model requires disciplined execution across Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and value stream-driven operations.
Position Overview
The Value Stream Supervisor – Welding is responsible for leading a defined segment of the
welding and fabrication value stream. This role ensures consistent production flow across manual and robotic welding operations while improving First Pass Yield (FPY), reducing rework, and driving performance against cycle time, takt time, and on-time delivery. The Value Stream Supervisor plays a critical role in managing flow, identifying constraints, and driving Continuous Improvement across welding operations in a contract manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Value Stream Flow & Welding Execution
• Lead day-to-day welding operations across a defined value stream, including manual and robotic welding processes
• Manage WIP, identify bottlenecks, and balance workloads to maintain consistent throughput
• Ensure welding execution aligns with fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and Bill of Materials (BOM) requirements
• Maintain alignment with production schedules, on-time delivery, and downstream system integration needs
Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
• Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives including 5S, Kaizen, and Continuous Improvement across welding operations
• Apply structured problem solving methods including Root Cause Analysis, 5 Whys, and Fishbone diagrams
• Improve cycle time and takt time through process optimization and waste reduction
• Identify constraints within fabrication and welding flow and implement corrective actions
KPI Ownership & Performance Management
• Monitor and improve key metrics including First Pass Yield (FPY), weld quality, throughput, cycle time, takt time, safety, and rework
• Drive reduction in weld defects and improve process consistency
• Ensure compliance with ISO9001 standards and internal quality systems
• Establish accountability for performance across the welding team
Cross-Functional Alignment
• Partner with Engineering to resolve weld design, fit-up, and fabrication issues impacting flow
• Work with Supply Chain to ensure material readiness and BOM accuracy
• Collaborate with Quality to address defects and implement corrective actions
• Coordinate with Production Planning to ensure flow aligns with production demand
Leadership & Team Development
• Lead and develop welders and fabrication technicians within the value stream
• Reinforce expectations around safety, quality, and operational discipline
• Build team capability in Lean Manufacturing and structured problem solving
Required Qualifications
• 3–7 years of experience in Welding Supervisor, Manufacturing Supervisor, or Value Stream Supervisor roles
• Experience in contract manufacturing or industrial manufacturing environments
• Strong background in welding processes including MIG, TIG, FCAW, and structural welding
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Root Cause Analysis
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with robotic welding systems and automation • Certified welder (AWS or equivalent)
• Background in fabrication or industrial manufacturing environments
