What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Support Specialist position at Growing Together?
Consider joining Growing Together's Family Visitation and Parenting Education programs and team! You would be joining a team focused on supporting and stabilizing families. We seek a reliable employee who can work Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Wednesday. Hours may vary depending on client caseload, but you would need some flexibility to work past 5:00 pm. Still, not later than 8:00 pm. This position allows you to make a difference in the lives of children and families within our community.
Qualifications:
- Minimum HS Graduate / GED Equivalent
- Minimum 21 years of age and parenting experience is preferred, but not required
- Valid Montana Driver's License, w/clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and an insurable driving record
- A dependable vehicle is necessary for transportation. MUST be able to show proof of insurance for any employee transporting clients. Auto insurance must meet the minimum standards set by this agency and the State of Montana DPHHS/Child & Family Services.
- Must be able to successfully pass an extensive criminal background check that meets the standards of our company and the State of Montana DPHHS/Child & Family Services to work with families and children.
Schedule:
- Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Wednesday. Must be able to work one weekend day.
- Work hours will vary, up to 40 hours per week, with some flexibility on scheduling client caseload.
- Qualified candidates must be able to work hours past 5:00 pm, but usually never later than 8:00 pm.
- We prefer full-time positions, but we also consider part-time hours.
Job Description:
- Help maintain the parent-child bond by providing visitation for children and their parents.
- Coordinate parenting time visitation between parents, guardians, family, and foster parents and transport children to and from visits.
- Assist with visit planning and provide coaching techniques and debriefings, helping to improve parenting skills and interactions.
- Facilitate meaningful and nurturing visitation, helping parents meet their children's physical, emotional, and developmental needs.
- Ensure the safety of children and model appropriate interactions between parents and children.
- Collaborate with colleagues, foster and kinship placements, social workers at Child & Family Services, and other community providers.
- Assist parents with concrete needs and connect them to resources that support reunification goals.
- Complete and maintain any documentation consistent with our program and agency standards.
- Completes all required case file documentation in a timely and routine fashion.
- Monitoring of any scheduled safe exchanges of children.
- Maintain an acceptable caseload approved by the Manager and be flexible to assist with co-workers' cases when needed.
- Adheres to agency-client confidentiality and state and federally mandated reporting policies.
- Conducts intakes and orientations with custodial and non-custodial parents participating in our programs.

- When transporting clients, employees must maintain automobile insurance that meets the agency's minimum standards and notify the agency of any changes in insurance providers.
- Must maintain a strong knowledge of child development and parenting skills.
- Must successfully maintain a clean Criminal Background & Motor Vehicle Record that meets the standards of our agency and the State of Montana DPHHS/Child & Family Services to work with families and children. These standards will be checked by both the State of Montana and our agency.
