As a Dental Assistant you are a key member of the dental department, where the primary duty will be functioning as an assistant to the doctor. The duties of the dental assistant are among the most comprehensive and varied in the dental office. The dental assistant performs many tasks requiring both interpersonal and technical skills. The goal is optimizing flow so patients are provided high quality care.
Sterilization & Patient Management
Perform all duties with excellence and in accordance with the Office Protocol
Properly sterilize all dental instruments and equipment in accordance with Office Protocol
Perform all opening, closing and maintenance procedures as described in the Office Protocol, as well as other duties as delegated by the Doctors and the Office Manager
Perform all maintenance procedures and logs in a thorough manner
Restock and maintain an inventory of dental supplies and instruments to assure a constant level is always available. Communicate to the Office Manager any supplies that need replenishing or replacement and add it to the supply log.
Maintain order and cleanliness in the dental lab and in the sterilization area.
Perform weekly spore testing and maintain a log of the results
Perform weekly and monthly maintenance of Autoclave and/or Statim.
. Maintain proper pre-set trays and ensure they are ready for anticipated procedures. Proactively review notes in patients’ charts to set-up for the planned treatment. Gather and ready all necessary materials and instruments needed for treatment.
Assist clinical staff in optimizing patient flow. This will include restocking items, seating patients, ‘floating’, and supporting other dental team members with patient care.
Prepare operatory for patient reception and assure it is as aseptic as possible for patient welfare.
Provide superior chair-side and administrative support to dentists. This includes following all instructions from assigned dentist.
Assist the assigned dentist with referrals, prescription phone-ins, and other processes involved in providing high quality dental care.
Check patient’s vital signs (i.e., blood pressure, temperature, etc.) in accordance with departmental policies.
Records Management
Gather and accurately record patient visits
Review previous visits for properly handling of patient care
Accurately update patient health history
Ensure patient charts and radiographs are in order
License Management
Maintain all licensures as required by the Ohio State Dental Board
Maintain active CPR certifications
Ensure all required immunizations are up to date
Keep track of all required continuing education courses
Immediately inform the Office Manager of issues as it relates to any licensure issues
Office Participation
Be an active participant in staff meetings and huddles
Perform other tasks as assigned by the Doctors and Office Manager
