What are the responsibilities and job description for the URBAN Farm Recovery Day — Volunteers Needed GROWING HOPE GARDENS position at Growing Hope Gardens?
Since 2019, and in partnership with Community Corporation of Santa Monica , Safe Place for Youth, Holos Communities and The People Concern , Growing Hope Gardens successfully opened and expanded 15 urban, organic, regenerative resident food gardens and fruit trees, and a 1/4 acre farm, at distinct affordable housing and homeless shelter properties in Los Angeles County
All of the resident food gardens are supported with our bi-monthly maintenance visits, with the goals of helping the gardens thrive and, increasing onsite resident knowledge and stewardship. This approach maximizes chances of success at growing food and supports resident engagement.
Educational signage informing how harvest, care, nutritional content, and suggested use is placed each season in the gardens. We also support the increase in plant-based knowledge with our online portal.

Farm Recovery Day—Volunteers Needed
Help Our Free Urban Farm Grow Again
Join Growing Hope Gardens for a Free Urban Farm Recovery Day and help us restore the farm after an unexpected five-week closure.
Following serious threats and assaults against members of our team, we temporarily closed the farm to protect our employees, interns, volunteers and community. The individual responsible is now in custody, and it is safe for us to reopen and welcome everyone back.
During the closure, we lost crops and seedlings and fell behind on essential farm care. Now we need our community’s help to get the farm growing again.
What We’ll Be Doing
Volunteers will help with
Your help will allow us to restore the farm and restart the food access, educational and community programs that take place here.
This recovery is about more than catching up on farm work. It is about moving forward together and restoring a place where people grow food, learn, volunteer, connect and care for one another.
What to Bring
Please wear closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothes that can get dirty and sun protection. Bring a reusable water bottle and gardening gloves if you have them.
Come for part of the event or stay for the full recovery day. Every helping hand makes a difference!
