Company and Position Summary
Our client is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to monitor and support production on lathes and mills, develop plans to correct deficiencies in machining process, and improve overall production. This person will work closely with process engineers, other manufacturing engineers, and process technicians to roll out process improvements for new and existing products.
Location: South Bend/Mishawaka Area, Indiana
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily production support alongside process technicians, operators, and production supervision
- Edit, maintain, and write G/M code for multi-axis lathes and mills
- Select proper cutting tools and tool holders for mill/lathe (or grinding!)
- Participate in APQP
- Read customer prints, develop programs, model in SolidWorks and post in Esprit
- Develop functional work holding, tooling, and fixtures
- Correct programs to address quality concerns and assist in corrective actions while working with the CNC programmer.
- Recommend equipment replacements or new machine purchases, and coordinate with OEMs/contractors for training and maintenance.
Position Requirements
- 5 years of experience in metal cutting.
- Knowledge of machining processes including mills and lathes
- Knowledge of various materials, cutting tools, work holding, cutting parameters
- Ability to read and edit G/M code.
- Experience with CAD/CAM
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills, with experience in Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Ability to work 100% on-site at an air-conditioned/heated manufacturing facility with potential exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and industrial hazards.
Position Preferences
- Engineering degree or equivalent
- Knowledge of machining processes including grinding
- Knowledge of heat treat
Employee Compensation and Benefits
This is a Salary Exempt position paying up to $120,000 based on experience.
