What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Teacher position at Growing Generations Child Development Center?
Under the direction of the teacher, the assistant helps in developing and implementing a developmentally appropriate program for children, which helps them develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally.
1. Review written lesson plans to assist in classroom activities.
2. Assists in observing and recording ongoing observations of each child.
3. Appropriately communicate with children.
4. Assist and participate in developmentally appropriate field trips.
5. Assist in planning, organizing, and directing daily activities.
6. Assist in collecting and preparing materials as needed for learning activities.
7. Responsible for the health and safety of the children, on the bus (when applicable), in the classroom, on the playground, and on field trips.
8. Use positive discipline techniques according to the Growing Generations Guidance Policy.
9. Comply with Wisconsin Statutes, Children’s Code, and SHRAI Personnel Policies in Suspected cases of child abuse or neglect. Record in the bound medical log and file.
10. Assist and encourage parents to participate in all aspects of the program.
11. Welcome parents and volunteers, helping them effectively utilize their skills and abilities in planning and carrying out classroom activities.
12. Participate in family activities when requested.
13. Follow Wisconsin Licensing Rules for Group Child Care Centers.
14. Follow emergency procedures according to the Growing Generations policies. Practice monthly fire/tornado drills with the children and staff. (Recorded by manager or asst. manager)
15. Become an active member of the site team; perform any duties to make the site run efficiently and effectively.
16. Maintain confidentiality at all times, both at work and in the community.
17. Attend monthly staff meetings and required in-service trainings as offered. Take part in 25 hours of Continuing Education (full-time) or 15 hours (part-time) per year; recording on continuing education forms provided.
18. Assist in preparing the classroom and materials, helping with inventory and cleanup of the classroom.
19. Perform all other duties as assigned.
20. Assist in ongoing observations and assessments on each child and record their progress.
1. Associate's Degree in Early Childhood. Must have the Assistant Teacher/Teacher certification.
2. Speaking and writing skills that enable effective communication.
3. Skills and abilities to function as an effective, positive team member.
4. Must be able to work well with adults and children with varied backgrounds and beliefs.
5. Must be able to keep accurate records and make all necessary documentation on time.
6. Must pass pre-employment drug tests.
7. Must be in good health and obtain a physical examination as required.
8. Must have a Mantoux tuberculin test upon hire.
9. Must be flexible and be able to work irregular hours occasionally.

· Ability to supervise children and ensure a safe environment, including the ability to monitor and respond to events going on at all times in the classroom, outdoor play areas, and on field trips. This includes the physical ability to move quickly in order to respond to children who are very active or who may need redirection in order to ensure their safety or the safety of others in the environment.
· Ability to assist the CCT teacher in applying Early Childhood Development theory in daily activities, and adapt it to the individual needs of children.
· Ability to respond appropriately to an emergency or a crisis. Daily kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor to attend to children’s needs.
· Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
· Must be able to work independently without intensive supervision.
· Must be able to balance and prioritize a workload and have strong time management skills.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14.04 - $15.13 per hour
