Our hands-on, outdoor learning experiences connect students and families to food sources, promoting better nutrition choices. Through our Farm to School Program, we create food gardens and living science labs in schools. Our new Community Food Systems Program, Nā Māla Kaiāulu, builds sustainable gardens serving underprivileged communities through social enterprise, workshops, and educational programs. Position Summary

The Program Manager oversees Grow Some Good’s Farm to School Program across multiple schools in Maui County, ensuring program excellence and sustainability. This role includes hiring and supervising garden coordinators, managing school partnerships, organizing staff trainings, engaging volunteers, and maintaining program data. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, with some administrative experience, a background in project and garden management, leadership experience, and a passion for creating positive social change. This supervisory role requires a balance of office work and hands-on fieldwork, with significant autonomy. Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:


Key Responsibilities
Program Management and Leadership
  • Manage and mentor a team of Garden Coordinators/Educators across multiple schools.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with school administrators to establish garden goals, sustainability plans, staffing needs, and contracts.
  • Develop work plans, manage staff schedules, and coordinate team meetings.
  • Track and report program metrics (e.g., student engagement, produce harvested) and lead annual surveys with school administrators.
  • Approve and manage budgets for garden programs, including staff expenses and community donations.
  • Work closely with Garden & Project Coordinators to ensure they have the necessary tools, supplies, and materials to deliver safe, effective programming.
Staff Recruitment, Training, and Retention
  • Hire and supervise part-time and full-time staff, including collaboration with schools to onboard Part-Time Teachers (PTTs).
  • Lead curriculum delivery, food safety, garden maintenance, and classroom management training programs.
  • Provide feedback and mentoring to staff, conducting annual performance reviews to support professional growth.
  • Coordinate and communicate other professional development opportunities.
  • Coordinate quarterly all-staff GSG meetings.
Community Outreach and Partnerships
  • Build relationships with community leaders, farmers, and partner organizations to strengthen program resources.
  • Coordinate with and support the Maui Farm-to-School Network.
  • Coordinate volunteer engagement and connect with local partners to support garden initiatives.
  • Assist in organizing and executing an annual County-wide school garden workday across multiple school gardens.
  • Represent Grow Some Good as a Hawai‘i State Farm to School Network member and attend inter-island meetings.
  • Collaborate on legislative efforts to promote food sustainability and agricultural education in Hawaii.
Development and Reporting
  • Assist with grant writing, fundraising initiatives, and reporting on program impact.
  • Prepare monthly reports on program activities for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Attend and participate in board meetings as requested.
  • Contribute to social media, newsletters, and outreach materials by sharing program successes and updates.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, agriculture, environmental science, or a related field, with at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams of 10 or more people.
  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting, report writing, and data tracking.
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including students, educators, and community partners.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; willingness to travel across Maui County.
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets) or Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Comfortable with public speaking and media interviews.
Desired Qualifications
  • Organic gardening experience and knowledge of garden maintenance and safe tool use.
  • Familiarity with Hawaii’s local food systems, culture, and native plants.
  • Experience working with schools or after-school programs.
  • Commitment to healthy eating, nutrition education, and sustainable agriculture.
  • Ability to transport materials; a truck or willingness to use rentals is a plus.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • The role involves office work (80%) and outdoor activities.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires standing, stooping, and walking across uneven terrain in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to perform tasks requiring physical dexterity and sustained movement.

Benefits
