Research Intern Position Overview:
Grow Pro Genetics is hiring six Research Interns for the summer of 2026. Throughout the summer, the Research Interns will become familiar with the work it takes to develop and deliver high quality wheat varieties to farmers. The Research Intern is responsible for carrying out duties to further the research objectives of the Soft Red Winter Wheat breeding program based in Hamel, IL. The Research Interns will work under the direction of the Station Manager for Grow Pro Genetics, LLC. The primary duties of the Research Interns will be to assist in notetaking, harvesting, processing and organization of the wheat according to the standards set forth by the Director of Research. In addition to the primary duties of the breeding program, each intern will be responsible for completing a special project suited to their skills, education, and interests.
Essential duties and Responsibilities:
- Attention to detail.
- Record plant notes as required by Research Director
- Harvest wheat as described in harvest protocols.
- Process harvested wheat according to processing protocols.
- Organize, sort inventory, and package seed.
- Keep all work areas clean and organized.
- Follow all safety precautions and report any safety issues to Station Manager.
Position Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
Education
High School diploma or GED with enrollment in college program.
Experience/Qualifications
Valid driver's license
Recommendation from previous employer and/or professor/teacher.
Competencies
Follow written protocols and procedures.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with manager regarding processes as well as scheduling.
Working Conditions (Physical & Mental Requirements)
- Work outdoors for prolonged periods of time.
- Work around wheat dust and pollen.
- Lift 30 lbs repeatedly.
- Read and follow written protocols.
- Work within a team to accomplish team goals.
