What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wrestling Coach position at Grove Christian School?
Grove Christian School seeks a Head Wrestling Coach for the fall 2025-26 season. Individuals must be available afternoons or evenings Monday through Friday from November through February. Candidates must have deep knowledge of wrestling and be able to instruct and demonstrate skills and tactics pertaining to the game. Individuals must also incorporate faith and Christian practices into their coaching as well as sign the Grove statement of faith. .
General Description:
Position is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and coaching instruction at Grove Christian School. Responsibilities may include supervising teams at varsity and junior varsity levels.
Essential Duties:

- Organize and plan practices, communicate practice times to parents/guardians.
- Communicate expectations to parents/guardians and players.
- Prepare practice plans (in advance of practice) including which coach is in charge of a skill/station, equipment required, rough estimate of length of drill/stations. Share plans with the assistant coach(es) prior to practice.
- Ensure there is always one coach or staff member supervising student-athletes.
- Attend all practices and games to the best of your ability.
- Arrange for practices/game coverage if you are unable to attend.
- Start and end practices on time. You and other designated coaches are always the last to leave the premises.
- Adhere to Grove Christian School requirements and recommendations.
- Attend all coaches' meetings.
- Charged with player selection.
- Supervision of the team during all activities.
- Purchase equipment, maintain inventory of equipment in collaboration with the Athletics Director.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director and fund-raising activities.
Qualifications: KSA's, Education
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
In-depth knowledge and advanced strategies of applicable sport. Knowledge of VISAA (Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association) rules. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to mentor and develop players in a positive way. Desire to teach and improve skill development. Must pass a criminal record check.
Education and Experience:
Required: Previous experience as a player and/or coaching at the high school level.
Preferred: Valid teaching license or bachelor's degree.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Physical Conditions:
Requires moderate physical activity. Requires standing and/or walking for extended periods of time. Potential for exposure to; adverse weather conditions, exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases, possible interactions with disruptive and/or unruly individuals. Work may involve exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and loud noise. Involves minimum exposure to physical risk while operating field maintenance equipment.
