Job Description: Upper School History Teacher (2026-2027)
Grove Christian School, located in Richmond, Virginia, is a private, Christ-centered school that integrates education with biblical faith. With an enrollment of over 450 students from preschool through high school, we are committed to offering a robust educational experience in a distinctly Christian environment. We are seeking a dedicated History Teacher who has a calling to be part of the ministry of Christian Education.
Position Overview: We are looking for a full-time teacher to instruct Upper School History for students in grades 6-12.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive, engaging, and real-world weekly lesson plans aligned with GCS curriculum.
- Integrate God's Word and its principles into daily instruction.
- Employ effective teaching strategies and age-appropriate technology to enhance learning experiences.
- Create a positive, engaging learning environment that promotes student success.
- Collaborate in content area planning and goal-setting with colleagues.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and grade submissions in accordance with school policies.
- Attend daily Faculty/Staff Devotions fostering a supportive community.
- Communicate regularly with parents to strengthen the teacher-parent partnership, a core component of our mission.
- Participate actively in co-curricular activities, contributing to the vibrant Grove community.
- Adhere to professional and modest dress code standards.
- Seek continuous professional development and collaborate with school administration on campus-wide initiatives.
Qualifications:
- A born-again Christian whose lifestyle and character reflect obedience to God and the Holy Scriptures, in alignment with the school's Statement of Faith and lifestyle beliefs.
- Active membership in a local church that shares the school's Statement of Faith.
- Proven experience teaching middle or high school students.
- Possession of state teaching credentials or an ACSI teaching certificate, or eligibility to obtain one.
- Ability to foster an effective classroom environment.
- Sufficient biblical knowledge to integrate Scripture meaningfully into the curriculum.
- Ability to serve as a positive Christian role model within the GCS community.
- A passion for working with young people.
- Proficiency in computer and technology applications, particularly the Google platform.
Qualifications: KSA's, Education
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Comprehensive knowledge of: modern practices, techniques, and methods of teaching; the principles of educational testing and principles and methods of remedial education; effective means of supervision and instruction; the principles and methods of educational research. Ability to: apply modern methods and principles of education to pupils functioning at the Upper School level; maintain an interest in the positive improvement and development of children, adolescents, or adults of normal and/or impaired learning ability; maintain proper discipline; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Required: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. Preferred: Currently hold or be eligible for a Teacher's License.
Candidates should be able to fulfill the physical demands of the position, which may include standing for extended periods, climbing stairs, supervising students actively, and riding school buses or vans.
