Overview

Objective:

Groups is a rapidly growing healthcare company providing evidence-based treatment for opioid use disorder through group therapy and medication. Medical providers are key to our multidisciplinary care team, which uses telemedicine extensively. Providers deliver direct care, manage medications, and prioritize member safety and engagement. In addition to these duties, Lead Staff Providers support the medical team by providing “curbside consultations” and day-to-day support for escalations, providing cross-coverage for part time and 1099 medical providers, developing and delivering training materials for medical providers, partnering with operational leaders and medical directors on change-management initiatives, and ensuring quality of care through chart reviews and direct observations.

 

Summary:

At Groups, the lead staff provider provides essential support and backup for our team of providers. They also serve as the primary medical consultants for the non-medical members of the care team. The lead staff provider will manage a team of contract and staff providers across multiple locations. The lead staff provider will have a mixture of direct care and administrative management responsibilities, averaging out to 50% direct care and 50% administrative management.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

 

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Direct member care duties

  • Adhere to clinical policies, procedures, and practice guidelines.

  • Manage a panel of members, acting as their dedicated continuity provider, reviewing care plans and medication at each group visit, or more often if required.

  • Provide direct care to members inclusive of group, individual sessions, and Initial Provider Evaluations-reviewing medical histories and assessing appropriateness for care.

  • Provide coverage for makeup groups, individual sessions, and initial evaluations.

  • Conduct individual sessions to review progress and provide evaluation and management (E&M) services as necessary.

  • Conduct on average 10-12 hours of face to face member care per week- combination of services listed above

  • Assess each member's medical needs and determine if they are appropriate for treatment according to Groups Recover Together's clinical models, policies, procedures, and manuals.

  • Prescribe medication for opioid use disorder and other approved medications, as needed, following Groups Recover Together's policies and procedures and practice guidelines.

  • Review and sign all generated prescriptions when appropriate.

  • Coordinate with community providers and agencies to support members as needed.

  • Offer cross-coverage for colleagues and answer medical questions when other providers are unavailable or cases require review.

  • Act as a medical consultant for interdisciplinary care team meetings (intercom).

  • Participate in the on-call schedule for urgent prescription coverage typically one Saturday per month for 2-3 hours

  • Delegate access to the state’s prescription drug monitoring database to allow Groups staff to monitor member access to controlled substances, according to clinical protocols.

  • Complete high-quality, thorough, and accurate documentation for all medical encounters on the same day, as outlined in Groups policy.

  • Maintain patient records confidentially and complete records as required by HIPAA and other applicable laws and regulations.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Manage assigned medical providers, ensuring quality care aligns with policies and procedures.

    • 10-20 Contracted providers and/or up 4-6 FTEs for Staff Providers

  • Maintain expertise in Groups' policies, procedures, and workflows.

  • Navigate complex clinical situations and "gray areas" consistent with Groups' philosophy and medical practice guidelines.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for medical concerns and escalations.

  • Assist with onboarding, training, education, and supporting new and existing providers.

  • Conduct chart reviews and direct care observations, providing feedback to assigned providers and supporting Medical Directors as deemed appropriate.

  • Complete required provider reviews and offer feedback on clinical and performance issues.

  • Support Groups' training, performance improvement, and change management activities.

  • Assist in rolling out new protocols, workflows, and care pathways.

  • Provide middle management support to front-line providers.

  • Collaborate on piloting initiatives to improve clinical outcomes.

  • Serve as collaborating physician for assigned NP/PA providers, when deemed appropriate with appropriate licensure

  • Work closely with the Provider Support Manager and the Operations Director as needed for administrative supports

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate recovery-sensitive behaviors, including choice of language, attitudes and interactions with members and staff. 

  • Ability to thrive in the group medical visit setting and use telehealth modality effectively.

  • A commitment to harm reduction principles and the ability to drive a culture of member-centeredness and harm reduction on the teams you supervise.

  • Ability to maintain courtesy and professionalism in all communications (verbal and written) with staff and members.

  • Ability to use discretion and work independently under general supervision.

  • Ability to lead, coach, and inspire a time

  • Ability to understand and adhere to the Professional Code of Conduct.

  • EMR fluency

  • Spreadsheet and basic data analysis proficiency

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Active, unencumbered medical license (MD/DO) in the state(s) of hire where Groups Recover Together operates, and appropriate behavioral health or addiction medicine NPI taxonomy (or willingness to adjust primary or secondary NPI taxonomy).

  • Active DEA with practice address in the state(s) of hire where Groups Recover Together operates and willingness to obtain additional licenses in other states as requested (no background issues that could limit state licensing or credentialing).

  • Proof of Active Board Certification(s) (list preferred/required specialties by region here based upon credentialing/regulations).

  • Willingness to become credentialed with all government and private health plans with whom Groups Recover Together is in network.

  • Ability and willingness to see members in person pre-agreed upon locations.

  • Evening availability 2 evenings (until 8pm) per week, preferred. 

  • Minimum 1 -year experience managing OUD with buprenorphine and proof of completion of the minimum 8 -hour SAMSHA training. 

  • At least 2 years experience working in a team-based-care setting with behavioral health providers (therapists, social workers, case managers, etc.).

  • At least 2 years experience working with a similar member population, preferably within primary care of behavioral health setting.

  • Access to reliable internet and telephone services, specifically 10M download and 5M upload packages or higher, as well as a strong WiFi signal from your remote work location.

  • Must meet pre-employment requirements and maintain all applicable state and job-related guidelines for background screening. Depending on state-specific requirements, this may include fingerprinting, drug testing, health screening, CPR/Basic First Aid and license/credential verifications.
