The Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of addiction medicine physicians and advanced practice providers, registered nurses and other staff to coordinate, support and deliver evidence-based, high-quality substance use disorder treatment. The CSAC is responsible for delivery of evidence-based diagnostic assessment and treatment to adults with substance use disorders.  The incumbent will receive day to day guidance, administrative supervision, and clinical consultation from the Associate Medical Director-Substance Use Disorder, with additional accountability to the Behavioral Health Services Manager.

This position will provide both initial intake assessments and follow up psychotherapy care as a member of the substance use disorders program. The CSAC will collaborate with their patients to develop and address individualized treatment plans that include accurate diagnosis and specified treatment goals. Treatment benefits and progress toward goals will be monitored and reviewed regularly, utilizing measurement tools, and adjusting treatment focus as appropriate.   This position may also coordinate care with primary care, other specialty providers, and the other systems in which their patients interact (e.g., families) as needed.  The CSAC may provide crisis support to GHC-SCW members, including triage and risk assessments, completing safety planning, and determining acuity and appropriate level of care for members seeking substance use disorder treatment services. 

The CSAC will complete documentation in the electronic medical record in a timely manner per department and organization protocols, and chart in a manner that is patient-oriented and professional. The CSAC will work collaboratively with addiction medicine physicians and advanced practice providers and be an active participant in substance use disorder department meetings.

The CSAC may provide cross coverage to the behavioral health department dependent on staffing and patient care needs

JOB SPECIFIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a psychotherapy-related field such as Psychology, Social Work, Guidance and Counseling, or Nursing required.
  2. Possession of an appropriate Wisconsin clinical license (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT), and Certification by the State of Wisconsin Medicaid/Health Forward program as a Behavioral Health Provider required.
  3. Licensure as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor.
  4. Possession of a National Provider Identifier (NPI Number) for health care providers required.
  5. Ability to provide own transportation to various work locations, as required. 
  6. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the provision of direct clinical behavioral health services.
  7. Knowledge of and experience with substance use disorder therapy models. 
  8. Knowledge and experience with short term therapy models preferred. 
  9. Previous experience in an HMO or managed care setting preferred.
  10. Knowledge, ability and skills in the provision of professional, evidence-based substance use disorders therapy services including assessment, diagnosis and treatment of individuals and groups.  Knowledge of and ability to apply current behavioral health theory and practices. Knowledge of group dynamics and leadership.
  11. Knowledge of and ability to effectively use human relations, interpersonal and communications skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal communication skills, including active listening skills.
  12. Commitment and proven ability to provide inclusive, equitable, respectful, and competent care to persons of diverse cultural backgrounds and identities.
  13. Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers. Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, and ability to learn and use electronic medical record systems such as EPIC. 
  14. Ability to use a personal computer with stable access to high-speed internet and video conferencing capacity.
  15. Ability to work effectively with clinic and administrative and to be a team player in a team-oriented environment. Ability to interact productively with staff at all levels required.
  16. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to speak and listen in person and on the phone.
  17. The ability to listen, trouble-shoot and be flexible. 
  18. Professional manner necessary to deal courteously and effectively with patients and the public.
  19. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality. Knowledge of medical records and appropriate documentation requirements.  Knowledge of HIPAA requirements.  Knowledge of confidentiality related to substance use disorders is preferred.
  20. Ability to work some evening hours and after hours on-call.
  21. Excellent assessment, interpersonal and communication skills.
  22. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with GHC-SCW staff.
  23. Ability to remain seated and attentive to patient verbalizations for extended periods of time.
