About the InternshipGroundwork Indy is accepting applications for our Summer 2026 Internship Cohort. This internship is project-based, meaning interns are assigned meaningful work that supports the organization while helping them build practical skills, resume-ready experience, and career confidence.
We are currently prioritizing applicants for the following roles:
- Social Media / Marketing Interns
- On-site Youth Programming Interns
- Administrative / Operations Intern
- Fundraising Support
At this time, we are not prioritizing additional data analysis interns, as those roles are already filled.
Priority Internship TracksSocial Media / Marketing InternWe are looking for a few interns interested in social media, content creation, visual storytelling, Canva design, short-form video, and nonprofit communications.
Social media interns will have support from a mentor and will help create public-facing materials that tell the story of Groundwork Indy’s youth programs, community impact, environmental work, and summer programming.
Possible responsibilities include:
- Create social media posts, captions, graphics, reels, and short videos
- Help maintain a social media calendar
- Support summer campaign planning and content scheduling
- Gather or organize photos, quotes, and stories from programs
- Create flyers, recruitment graphics, event materials, or simple infographics
- Help strengthen Groundwork Indy’s online presence across platforms
- Participate in feedback and revision before public materials are posted
This role is a good fit for students interested in:
Marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, visual communications, media, graphic design, nonprofit storytelling, or community engagement.
On-site Youth Programming InternWe are looking for several interns who can support youth programming in person during the summer. These interns will work alongside Groundwork Indy staff to support teen participants, environmental projects, daily program flow, and community-based activities.
This role is ideal for interns who enjoy working with youth, being outdoors, supporting hands-on projects, and helping create a positive, structured environment.
Possible responsibilities include:
- Support Green Team and youth programming activities
- Assist with daily setup, cleanup, supplies, and attendance
- Help supervise and encourage teen participants during program activities
- Support outdoor environmental projects such as gardening, trail work, urban forestry, or community cleanup
- Help document youth work through photos, notes, quotes, and brief summaries
- Support safety, teamwork, accountability, and positive youth engagement
- Assist with community events, school visits, or outreach activities as needed
This role is a good fit for students interested in:
Education, social work, human services, environmental science, public health, youth development, nonprofit leadership, community engagement, public affairs, or environmental justice.
Important note: This role is primarily on-site and may include outdoor work in summer weather.
Administrative / Operations InternWe are also seeking one intern who enjoys organization, systems, documentation, and behind-the-scenes support. This person will help strengthen the internal systems that allow Groundwork Indy’s programs, fundraising, communications, and reporting work to run more smoothly.
Possible responsibilities include:
- Organize Google Drive folders, files, documents, and shared resources
- Help update project trackers and internal planning documents
- Support data entry, contact lists, spreadsheets, and CRM/Salesforce preparation
- Help clean up and organize program, grant, or administrative files
- Create simple guides, checklists, or handoff notes for future interns and staff
- Assist with documentation for summer projects, reports, and program outcomes
- Support staff with administrative tasks tied to internship and program operations
This role is a good fit for students interested in:
Business administration, nonprofit management, public administration, data analytics, information systems, operations, software development, project coordination, or organizational leadership.
What All Interns Can ExpectAll interns will be part of the Summer 2026 Internship Cohort and should expect to:
- Attend cohort check-ins and communicate regularly with supervisors
- Complete weekly intern reports or progress updates
- Track assigned projects, deadlines, questions, and next steps
- Ask questions early when directions, goals, or expectations are unclear
- Receive feedback and revise work when needed
- Build at least one resume-ready project, portfolio item, or professional experience
- Complete a final handoff explaining what was completed, where work is saved, and what future interns or staff should know
Interns may work within one primary track or across more than one area depending on their skills, interests, schedule, and Groundwork Indy’s needs.
QualificationsSuccessful interns will be:
- Reliable, communicative, and willing to ask questions
- Interested in youth development, environmental work, community impact, or nonprofit operations
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Open to feedback, revision, and learning new tools
- Organized enough to track assignments and follow through on deadlines
- Respectful of confidentiality, youth-centered work, and community relationships
Experience is welcome, but not required. We are looking for interns who are willing to learn, contribute, and grow.
ScheduleSummer 2026 internship dates and schedules will vary by role.
- On-site youth programming roles will have more structured daytime hours.
- Social media and administrative roles may be hybrid or remote depending on the project.
- Some evening cohort calls or check-ins may be required.
