Ground Up Innovations (GUI) is an engineering services company that provides design and manufacturing services to start-ups in the Greater Boston area. GUI works with 20 companies every year; mostly in the ClimateTech space. We are seeking a motivated and hands-on engineering intern to tackle some of the product development projects in our growing portfolio.
The Design and Prototyping Engineering Intern will work closely with GUI’s founder and engineering team. Being a small company, you will get the opportunity to work on several different projects and gain exposure into how a small business operates. At GUI, a typical project may include a detailed design in SolidWorks, fabrication of the design, and assembly/testing; before delivering to the client. There are three main types of work that you may do in your day-to-day:
· Support other engineers on projects they lead.
· Lead a project of your own with support from other engineers.
· Assist with business operations including new facility buildout.
Job Requirements:
· Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, electro-mechanical, robotics, manufacturing, or similar engineering discipline.
· Completed at least one prior internship/related work experience.
Desired Education/Experience:
· Familiarity in CAD (SolidWorks or similar)
· Experience using shop tools and equipment (hand and power tools, 3D printer ..etc.)
· Ability to communicate ideas, concepts, and designs in a professional manner. (both written and verbal)
· Attention to detail, time management, and an organized workflow is crucial for job success.
· Appetite to work hard, learn, have fun, and innovate every day.
Bonus Skills and Experience:
· Electrical aptitude including reading schematics, wiring, and debugging
· Use of machine shop tools and metal fabrication.
· Work experience at a start-up technology company
· Data acquisition hardware/software
· Interest in and enthusiasm for business operations
