Position Summary
Groton School seeks a dynamic and strategic Director of Alumni Engagement to lead efforts that foster lifelong relationships between the school and its global alumni community. Reporting to the Director of Development and Alumni Affairs and working closely with colleagues across the Alumni Office and the school, the Director of Alumni Engagement is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive alumni engagement program that strengthens alumni connection, participation, and pride in Groton.
The successful candidate will bring creativity, strong relationship-building skills, and a deep appreciation for the mission and values of a residential independent school.
Key Responsibilities
Alumni Strategy and Programming
- Continue to implement an effective multi-year alumni engagement strategy that supports Groton’s institutional priorities and advancement goals.
- Manage a robust calendar of alumni programs, including reunions, regional and virtual events, class-based initiatives, affinity gatherings, and on-campus programming. Further develop an affinity program to engage alumni within particular industries and interests.
Volunteer Leadership and Class Engagement
- Recruit, train, and support alumni volunteers, including class agents, reunion committees, regional leaders, and affinity group volunteers.
- Collaborate with volunteers to encourage participation across alumni cohorts and generations.
- Serve as primary liaison with the President of the Groton School Alumni Association.
Collaboration and Fundraising
- Work closely with gift officers to align alumni engagement efforts with fundraising and stewardship strategies.
- Partner with Communications and other school offices to ensure consistent messaging and effective outreach to alumni.
- Support the school’s culture of philanthropy by promoting engagement as a pathway to lifelong involvement and giving.
- Manage fundraising for a cohort of classes for the Groton Fund in collaboration with the Director of the Groton Fund, working with volunteers and direct solicitations.
Data, Communications, and Operations
- Oversee alumni communications in partnership with the Communications Office, including newsletters, event invitations, and digital engagement.
- Use data and analytics to track participation, assess program effectiveness, and inform strategic decision-making.
- Manage the reunion budget and components of the alumni engagement budget to ensure efficient use of resources.
Reunions and Signature Events
- Lead planning and execution of Reunion Weekend, which includes 500 attendees, working closely with leadership, campus partners and volunteers.
- Execute a series of regional events and programs in major cities.
- Expand the Groton Women’s Network (GWN), particularly in celebration of 50 years of coeducation.
- Ensure events reflect Groton’s traditions while evolving to meet the interests of a diverse alumni body.
Career Networking
- Facilitate career connections between alumni through mentorship, networking, and professional development opportunities.
- Oversee Groton’s Career Network site and maintain the school’s partnership with Graduway, ensuring an active and effective platform for alumni career engagement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 5–7 years of experience in alumni relations, development, event management or a related field.
- Demonstrated success in designing and leading engagement programs and managing volunteers.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to engage a wide range of constituents and volunteers.
- Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong ethics and ability to manage highly confidential information.
- Willingness to travel and work periodic evenings and weekends.
- An appreciation for Groton School’s mission, values, and residential school environment.

This position is based full-time on Groton School’s campus in Groton, Massachusetts.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
