Job summary
The Assistant Manager is primarily responsible for the oversight of a campus shuttle location, consisting of drivers, supervisors, ensuring daily operations are running properly and efficiently all while providing excellent customer service.
Role and Responsibilities
- Support management by monitoring work done by the location and monitor the actions of the drivers, directing them toward the accomplishment of company goals
- Assist in the assignment of duties and work schedules
- Assist Operations Manager in the development and follow-through of goals and deadlines, and communication to associates
- Manage customer issues, utilizing strong customer service skills and maintaining the best interest of the customer when developing resolutions
- Approve timecards and time off requests
- Create and foster team environment and open communication internally, as well as with other company offices
- Responsible for overseeing all safety sensitive functions at the local level;
- Act as a location safety advocate, while also partnering with other location safety advocates within a region to ensure consistency in both process and procedure
- Attend all Accident Claim meetings
- Conduct and/or assist General Manager with office safety training and meetings
- When issues or safety concerns arise, ensure all drivers are trained (re-trained) appropriately and disciplined as required, per safety guidelines
- Provide feedback to associates and management on an ongoing basis, related to operational, safety and compliance issues
- Assist the General Manager in the recruitment process by conducting interviews, the selection, and the recruitment of an adequate number of operator applicants to effectively provide safe, efficient service, while adhering to company applicant standards
- Assist with processing and the completion of all random, pre-employment, reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug and alcohol testing as required by law and company
- Complete and ensure all documentation in Tenstreet or other Company systems to ensure DQ files are compliant at all times
- Maintain or coordinate complete personnel record keeping, including the completion of I-9's
- Responsible for maintaining the substance abuse file
- Evaluate employee performance, develop and counsel staff in an honest, firm, communicative, problem-solving manner, and take corrective action or recognize as appropriate
- Adhere to company standards as stated in the Employee Handbook and the Groome Safety Manual when dealing with personnel situations and/or conflicts
- Provide accurate and complete accident reports to reduce number and severity of accidents, maintain complete safety files, including but no inclusive of accident report accident checklist, accident photos, video records, hours of service logs & worker compensation injury reports
- Ensure all cameras are installed and working in equipment and partner with the Operations Director to review cameras as needed
- Partner with Operations and Fleet to ensure all vehicle maintenance is completed in timely manner and annual DOT vehicle inspections are completed per regulations, while ensuring a copy of the annual inspection is in each vehicle
- Work cohesively with all management to ensure location is a positive work environment
- Coordinate compliance with Federal, State, and local laws and work closely with General Manager or Designee to accomplish company objectives
- Cover shifts as needed
- Maintain an excellent attendance record
- Other responsibilities as required
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required, college courses a plus
- 4-5 years previous customer service and/or management experience to include dealing with the public in transportation, logistics or a similar industry; or at least 4 years' experience with Groome Transportation Airport Shuttle or Campus Shuttle, several of those as a senior customer service agent
- 3 years handling multiple phone lines and preferably previous management experience
- Knowledge of DOT and safety regulations
- Experience dealing with employee and customer issues, or strength of interpersonal skills to handle employee and customer interaction well, with training
- Software experience with Word, Excel, and Outlook and other Internet applications
- Some experience using scheduling and/or reservation software
- Cash handling experience
- Must pass pre-employment drug test
- Complete pre-employment background check
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
