Job Title: Field Service Technician – Paving & Materials Processing

Job Outline
This position supports our customers by performing diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on paving, milling, and material processing equipment. This position plays a critical role in maintaining equipment uptime and ensuring customer satisfaction through high-quality service. The Field Service Technician works independently in the field while collaborating closely with the service team and Service Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and preventative service on paving, milling, and material processing equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues to minimize equipment downtime.
- Conduct component rebuilds and replacements in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Utilize diagnostic tools, software, and test equipment to troubleshoot complex equipment issues.
- Travel to customer job sites to perform field service repairs and technical support.
- Communicate repair status, recommendations, and timelines to customers and service leadership.
- Accurately document service work, including labor hours, parts usage, and completed repairs.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with safety policies.
- Maintain required personal tools and work overtime as business needs require.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience as a Heavy Equipment Technician or Mechanic; paving, milling, or material processing equipment experience preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and electronic service tools.
- Intermediate computer skills and ability to complete electronic service documentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Trade school education, certifications, or manufacturer training preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly lift and carry 20–50 lbs; occasionally lift 50–75 lbs.
- Bend, kneel, push, pull, reach, and climb on and underneath equipment.
- Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Operate various types of construction equipment in shop and yard environments.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving policy.
Work Environment
This position involves both field-based and shop-based work. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, noise, grease, and mechanical hazards. Overtime and flexible scheduling may be required to meet customer and operational demands.
