Shift Lead

The Shift Lead is responsible for overseeing morning store operations, ensuring the store is properly opened, organized, and ready for business. This role provides daily direction to cashiers and merchandisers, delegates tasks, manages cash-handling procedures, and maintains store standards throughout the shift.

The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, proactive, and capable of leading a team while ensuring customers receive friendly and efficient service. The Shift Lead serves as the primary point of contact for employees during the opening shift and helps ensure a smooth transition to the next shift.

Store Opening and Daily Operations

• Open the store promptly and complete all required opening procedures.
• Ensure the sales floor, registers, and work areas are clean, organized, and ready for customers.
• Verify that registers and other necessary equipment are operational before opening.
• Identify and address immediate operational needs at the start of the shift.
• Maintain store readiness, cleanliness, and presentation throughout the morning.

Team Leadership and Delegation

• Direct, supervise, and support cashiers and merchandisers throughout the shift.
• Assign daily tasks and communicate priorities clearly to team members.
• Monitor task completion, productivity, attendance, and adherence to store procedures.
• Adjust assignments as needed based on customer traffic and operational demands.
• Provide guidance and coaching to employees and address routine concerns professionally.
• Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.

Cash Handling and Register Oversight

• Complete opening cash counts and verify register funds according to company procedures.
• Monitor cashier register activity and ensure proper cash-handling practices.
• Perform cash counts, register checks, and cash reconciliation as assigned.
• Follow established procedures for cash drops, deposits, shortages, and discrepancies.
• Maintain the security and accuracy of all cash transactions and related documentation.

Customer Service and Problem Resolution

• Support cashiers in maintaining friendly, accurate, and efficient checkout service.
• Assist with customer questions, complaints, and routine service issues.
• Resolve day-to-day operational concerns within the scope of the position.

• Previous retail or customer service experience preferred.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
• Ability to delegate tasks and hold team members accountable professionally.
• Trustworthiness and attention to detail when handling cash.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions during the opening shift.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform routine retail tasks, including stocking and lifting merchandise as required.

The standard shift is 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM. The Shift Lead is expected to arrive on time, complete opening responsibilities, and remain actively engaged in store operations throughout the scheduled shift. Scheduling, meal breaks, and additional hours will be determined by store needs and company policy.
