Job Duties And Responsibilities

Clinical Care and Supervision:

  • Provide clinical care to patients.
  • Supervise clinical staff (RN, CNA, HUC).
  • Ensure clinical competence in procedural skills, treatments, and patient/caregiver education.
  • Organize and prioritize clinical responsibilities.

Collaboration And Communication

  • Collaborate with physicians, Department Director, Medical Director, and other clinicians.
  • Communicate with hospital staff regarding patient needs and department quality indicators.
  • Maintain regular communication with the department director.
  • Establish effective networking with colleagues throughout the hospital and referral regions, maintaining interactions with all healthcare team members.

Staff Development And Management

  • Engage in staff development through in-services and skills development activities.
  • Provide individual instruction and orientation.
  • Assist in human resource management (interviewing, hiring, orientation, performance appraisals, coaching/disciplinary processes).

Departmental Leadership And Coordination

  • Collaborate with Department Director on department objectives (financial, patient experience, quality, safety, staff/physician satisfaction).
  • Assist with department staff meetings and attend other assigned meetings.
  • Provide department leadership in the absence of the Department Director.

Quality Improvement And Compliance

  • Identify areas of improvement in processes and procedures.
  • Collaborate in performance improvement and Lean activities.
  • Develop and maintain department clinical policies and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Develops forums for discussion and resolution of product line issues and defines annual goals for trauma services.
  • Ensures trauma services align with GMC's mission and regulatory standards, maintaining accreditation and professional standards.

Community Outreach And Education

  • Enhance community outreach and education within the referral area.
  • Serve as a unifying force to achieve trauma services goals and organizational commitments to care.
  • Recognize and respond to contemporary healthcare trends and reimbursement issues.

Patient-Centered Culture And Safety

  • Foster a patient-centered culture with emphasis on purposeful rounding, AIDET, and bed-side shift report.
  • Ensure age and development-appropriate care.
  • Monitor and address causes of injuries in the facility, ensuring staff are equipped and trained to prevent injuries.

Financial Management

  • Monitor financial viability of the department through budget input, expense control, and quality improvement.
  • Ensure clinical progression towards defined quality outcomes, patient and family satisfaction, cost-effectiveness, and system efficiency.

Professionalism And Standards

  • Demonstrate a code of conduct reflective of a professional healthcare provider.
  • Act as a role model for the organization's mission, vision, values, and standards of behavior.

Job Requirements

Required Education

  • At minimum an associate degree in nursing from an accredited school. If no BSN upon hire, enrollment in a program within 6 months of hire.

Required Licenses And/or Certifications

  • [Idaho] Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), and Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) required

Required Work Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience trauma, emergency, or critical care services.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analysis/problem-solving skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Excellent planning, budgeting, and fiscal management skills
  • Exceptional nursing practice skills in trauma environment
  • Ability to identify potential clinical situations impacting trauma outcomes
  • Data abstraction related to trauma registry
  • Ability to educate and present effectively

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSN preferred at time of hire.

Functional Demands

Population(s) served

Neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. All genders, race, ethnic, sociopolitical, demographic, marital and sexual preference groups, developmental and physical abilities, religions, and nationalities. Population may have impairments of any or all body systems and senses.

Physical demands

Considerable lifting, positioning, and transferring of patients. Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Must possess good manual and finger dexterity. Visual requirements include near and far acuity, depth perception, color differentiation, and focusing ability. Hearing, speech, and sense of touch are essential. Occasional repetitive motion activities.

Environmental conditions

Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne disease and other infectious diseases. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. May be exposed to/occasionally exposed to patient elements, i.e., accidents, injuries, and illnesses. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations; potentially violent or angry patients and families; emergencies and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours/shifts. Frequently required to function competently with multiple demands and tasks. Maybe exposed to environmental hazards in patient homes. May be exposed to noxious and potentially hazardous fumes.
