What are the responsibilities and job description for the Help Adults Stay Consistent With Training (Afternoons, Clients Provided) position at Grit Gym?
(Stable Schedule * Clients Provided * No Client Chasing * No Workout Programming)
If you enjoy helping people but are tired of:
- having your guidance ignored
- chaotic or unpredictable schedules
- getting called in last minute
- being expected to “build your own book of clients”
- spending hours writing workouts instead of actually interacting with people
*
This role is intentionally different.
We run a private coaching gym in Iowa City working exclusively with adults 40 — people who value guidance, follow through, and professionalism.
This is a structured environment with clear expectations for both clients and coaches.
What Makes This Role Different
- Clients are already here.
You are not responsible for marketing, selling, or finding people to train. You will have clients on Day One.
- Clients actually listen.
Our onboarding, standards, and expectations create real buy-in. Coaching means coaching — not chasing.
- Stable, predictable schedule.
No late nights. No surprise calls. No rotating shifts. This is built for adults who want consistency.
- No workout programming required.
You are not responsible for designing workouts. Our systems handle programming so you can focus on coaching, cues, and relationships.
- Professional, calm environment.
No group chaos. No influencer culture. No pressure to perform for social media.
Who This Role Is a Great Fit For
You do NOT need to come from the fitness industry.
This role often fits people coming from:
- Nursing or healthcare roles (especially those burned out by shifts and staffing chaos)
- Restaurant or hospitality management
- Bartending or service leadership
- Teaching or education
- Physical therapy aide or rehab roles
- Other customer-facing leadership positions
If you’re used to responsibility, communication, and standards — you’ll likely do well here.
What Matters Here
- Clear communication with adults
- Respect for structure and expectations
- Reliability and professionalism
- Coachability and self-reflection
- Comfort taking responsibility seriously
Certification:
A certification is NOT required to apply.
However, coaches are expected to complete an approved certification within the first 6 months of employment.
Grit Gym covers the cost of certification for coaches who demonstrate commitment and follow-through.
Certifications can be taught.
Care, behavior, and presence cannot.
Schedule & Compensation
- Part-time role (~15 hours per week)
- Afternoon sessions only
- Consistent weekly schedule
- Competitive hourly pay based on demonstrated competence and adherence to standards
Compensation Progression
This role has a clear pay progression tied to training, independence, and certification.
Progression is based on demonstrated competence and follow-through, not tenure alone.
