Grit & Grind Cafe is a locally owned, family-operated restaurant in Phenix City, and we're looking for dependable Kitchen Team Members / Cooks to join our crew.

We call this position our Flavor Technician because you're responsible for the part that matters most — making sure the food coming out of our kitchen is something we're proud to serve.

We're not looking for culinary degrees or somebody who knows fancy kitchen terminology. We're looking for people who can learn, move with purpose, follow our recipes and procedures, work clean and consistently put out great food.

And unlike a lot of restaurant kitchen jobs, you don't have to give up every night of your life to work here.

PAY TIPS

Base pay is $10–$12/hour depending on experience, availability and position — PLUS participation in our shared tip pool.

Yes, our kitchen team gets tips too.

Our tip pool has historically added at least approximately $4/hour to eligible team members' earnings, and our team is currently averaging around $16/hour in total earnings including tips.

Tip amounts vary based on customer tipping, hours worked and other factors and are not guaranteed. Past tip earnings do not guarantee future earnings.

OUR HOURS

Wednesday–Friday: 11:00 AM–8:00 PM
Saturday: 6:30 AM–1:30 PM
Sunday: 8:00 AM–2:00 PM
Monday & Tuesday: CLOSED

We're hiring part-time employees for a variety of shifts. Weekend availability is strongly preferred.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Kitchen Team Member / Flavor Technician, you'll learn our menu, recipes, cooking procedures and kitchen systems.

Responsibilities may include food preparation, fryer operation, cooking and assembling orders, following recipes and portion standards, maintaining food quality and consistency, restocking your station, keeping your work area clean and organized, following food-safety procedures, helping with opening and closing duties and working with the rest of the team to keep orders moving during busy periods.

We believe in cross-training, so you're not necessarily going to spend every shift standing in the exact same spot doing the exact same thing.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Experience is great. Reliability is better.

We're looking for someone who shows up on time, learns quickly, works with urgency, follows directions and takes pride in the food they put out.

You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen, communicating with teammates, staying organized during a rush and jumping in when something needs to be done.

Restaurant experience is helpful, but we're willing to train the right person.

If you've worked as a Cook, Line Cook, Prep Cook, Kitchen Team Member, Restaurant Team Member, Fry Cook, Kitchen Crew Member or Food Service Worker, your experience may be a great fit here.

REQUIREMENTS

• Must be at least 15 years old
• Able to stand and move quickly for long periods (6 hour shifts)
• Must be able to lift 25–50 lbs (boxes of ingredients, fryer baskets, etc.)
• Reliable transportation to and from work
• Willing and able to work early mornings and weekends
• Comfortable in fast-paced, hot kitchen environments
• Must follow food safety, hygiene, and cleaning protocols
