What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Resident Counselor position at GRIP (Greater Richmond Interfaith Program)?
ABOUT US: GRIP is an interfaith, multi-cultural coalition of 41-member congregations – including Christians, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, and Sikhs – working together to address critical issues of human dignity and social justice in West Contra Costa County. For over 50 years GRIP has been providing services and shelter to the Contra Costa unhoused population. We currently operate two core programs serving unhoused families and single adults.
GENERAL PURPOSE: The Part Time/On-Call Resident Counselor assumes responsibility for supervising our family homeless shelter or single adult clients on an as-needed basis. This may included: enforcing shelter rules, facilitating meals, helping clients with unexpected issues, interacting with caseworkers, documenting infractions, keeping good records, and performing light cleaning and maintenance. Shifts may consist of weekends, overnights, and holidays.
DUTIES:
- Maintains operational controls of family shelter, establishing a healthy housing environment.
- Supervise clients and guests.
- Maintains, oversees and assist with completion of chores, such as vacuuming carpets, sweeping floors, taking out trash, cleaning bathrooms and assuring that housing facility is kept in clean and sanitary condition.
- Ensures compliance with program rules, proper upkeep and clean up of dorm rooms and shared areas.
- Documents infractions of the rules.
- Assist clients with establishing short-term coping and problems solving skills.
- Regularly monitors site for safety and injury prevention.
- Maintains confidentiality of client information and records.
- Maintain positive and appropriate communications with staff and volunteers, especially the shelter manager and caseworkers.
- Coordinates meals, classes and activities.
- Coordinate and supervise volunteers.
- Maintains appropriate records, logs and guest records.
- Provide daily meal counts for the GRIP's Child and Adult Care Food Program.
- Trains and assist adults and children to promote healthily meal choices.
- Maintains facilities management (janitorial).
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Program Manager.
TEMPERMENT: You should be good with people going through an incredibly stressful chapter of their lives. You should have good problem-solving skills and a calm, graceful demeanor to clients. You also will need to establish and maintain professional boundaries with our residents.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
