Job Summary:
The Accountant oversees the organization's financial operations and Accounting functions. This includes managing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, internal controls, and accounting systems. The accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial statements, developing financial strategies, and providing financial insights to support business decisions. The role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and effective communication of financial information to managers.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation and accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements following GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Review balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and other financial reports to ensure they are accurate and compliant with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare detailed reports for management, the board of directors, and external stakeholders.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Lead the budgeting process, working closely with department heads and management to develop annual operating budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor and analyze budget vs. actual performance, identifying variances and providing corrective action plans when necessary.
- Update financial forecasts regularly to reflect changes in business conditions, ensuring accurate projections for revenue, expenses, and cash flow.
Cash Management:
- Oversee cash flow management, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operations, payroll, and other financial obligations.
- Manage the company’s banking relationships, overseeing cash collections, disbursements, and investments.
- Develop strategies to optimize cash flow, manage working capital, and ensure timely payments.
Accounting Operations:
- Ensures timely and accurate completion of day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries.
- Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all entries are accurate and complete.
- Ensure the proper accounting treatment of complex transactions and maintain a well-organized and compliant chart of accounts.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
- Work closely with external auditors to facilitate the annual audit process and ensure compliance with tax regulations and other legal requirements.
- Monitor compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations, ensuring timely and accurate filings of tax returns and other regulatory reports.
Systems and Technology:
- Manage the financial accounting systems, ensuring they are optimized for accuracy and efficiency.
- Oversee system upgrades, integrations, and other improvements to streamline accounting processes and ensure alignment with business needs.
Tax Planning and Reporting:
- Oversee preparing and filing corporate tax returns, ensuring compliance with all tax laws and regulations.
- Manage relationships with tax advisors and external accountants, ensuring optimal tax strategies and compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements.
- Advise management on tax-efficient strategies and implications for business operations and decisions.
Key Requirements:
Education and Qualifications:
· Associates Degree in Accounting (Required)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Preferred).
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation (Preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 1 year in a managerial or leadership role.
- Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Experience with financial management software, ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks), and advanced Excel skills.
- Experience in manufacturing is a plus.
