Position Summary
Griffin & Reed Eye Care is seeking an experienced Senior Patient Access Representative to support front-office operations at our Sacramento and Roseville locations.
This position is ideal for a seasoned healthcare front-desk professional who is confident managing complex scheduling, registration, insurance verification, referrals, payment collection, and patient concerns. The Senior Patient Access Representative will also serve as a dependable workflow resource for the Patient Access team.
This is not a supervisory position, but the successful candidate should be comfortable assisting coworkers, troubleshooting routine workflow issues, and helping maintain consistent front-office practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and provide courteous, professional service throughout their visit.
- Verify and update demographic, insurance, guarantor, and contact information.
- Confirm insurance eligibility and identify referral or authorization requirements.
- Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments according to practice guidelines.
- Coordinate follow-up appointments, recalls, referrals, diagnostic testing, and authorization tracking.
- Complete accurate patient check-in and check-out activities.
- Collect copayments, deductibles, coinsurance, private-pay amounts, and outstanding balances.
- Review registration forms, consents, HIPAA acknowledgments, and financial responsibility documentation for completeness.
- Assist with complex registration, scheduling, insurance, and patient-service issues.
- Respond to patient questions and support appropriate service recovery.
- Provide practical workflow assistance to less-experienced team members.
- Support daily payment reconciliation and other front-end revenue-cycle activities.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, providers, billing personnel, and other departments.
- Rotate among front-office responsibilities and practice locations based on operational needs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least three years of medical front-office, patient access, or healthcare scheduling experience required.
- Experience with insurance eligibility verification, referrals, authorizations, and patient collections required.
- Ophthalmology or optometry experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare registration practices.
- Experience using an electronic health record or practice-management system.
- Excellent communication, customer-service, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to registration and insurance accuracy.
- Ability to manage competing priorities while remaining composed and professional.
- Ability to work independently and contribute to a collaborative team.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
